Don't think Chloe was playing well enough in any case for a Matildas recall but any dream she had at making the Matildas squad for the Asian Cup as a last hurrah is gone.

Had some great moments in her career. Scored the goal in our only ever win (1-0) against the USA and led the fightback in the 3-2 win against Brazil back in the 2019 World Cup after being down 0-2.

Foord with the winner in this morning's FIFA Women's Champions Cup Trophy. (I think it might have been an attempt to cross and the skew on the inside out kick off the boot at the right moment gave it the swerve away from the GK on that tight angle)

Kerr at Chelsea really struggling in the last couple of matches.

18 days before the Asian Cup begins with Matildas playing Philippines on March 1 and they still haven't announced the squad.

Announced now. Charli Grant not picked I see (know she's had a few injuries lately).

I had a look at the line ups for Tottenham in the Women's Super League on the weekend and Grant was listed in the unavailable section with injury beside the name.

Bit of a let down for me that they didn't pick some newer players who have been performing in the A-League eg: Annalise Rasmussen or Isabel Gomez. There's not a lot of new generation players in the squad.

Heard that Japan is on the same side of the draw as us, so just to get to a final we'd have to beat them along the way. Really think South Korea in the 3rd match might be tough because it's the 3rd game in a week and we have a squad of older players that have to travel back from Perth after the 1st game, and the other teams in our group - Philippines and Iran might have the discipline to defend for a draw.

Agree re your point about rolling out the same faces.

Suspect that someone like Daniela Galic is in that category of players who have just not had enough of an opportunity to play/put themselves in view of selectors in recent times. She's only 19 but was hoping she'd have advanced herself enough by now to be in a squad like this.

I just had a look at Galic's games. She played 87min for Vittsjo in a cup game on the weekend against Rosengard (which is Siemsen's team) so those stats about game time on Teo Pellizzeri's post might not be accurate/up to date (Siemsen also played 90m). Looks like the teams in Sweden have a long winter break between November and February. Galic turns 20yo in June, so she should still be eligible for U20's squad, but maybe not picked for these training camps. There'd be a bunch of players like Galic that should still be part of our next generation, or just over the 20yo age bracket that have moved to play in UK/ Europe. eg: Alana Murphy.

These are players named in the current U20's and U17's training camps. There's a few missing through injury I would guess. Grace Kuilamu and Indiana Dos Santos spring to mind, out with ACL injuries. Most of the U20's play in the A League. Don't know many of the U17's - except Pearson, Corbett and Jugovic are some that have been playing A League.

UNDER 20's.

Pretty much what I expected - was slightly surprised to see Chids back but then she's been starting regularly in Italy (it's hard to get a grip on the quality of the various European leagues).

This big generational changes will come after the Asian Cup.

There will be ongoing play-offs from this tournament for Olympic Qualification in 2028.

Matildas have to make it to a certain point in this tournament to qualify for play-offs for the next Olympics which is basically the next round. Only 4 of the 12 teams are eliminated after the group stage in this tournament so 2 of the 3 teams that finish 3rd in the group stage go on to Quarter finals.

The 8 teams that make quarter finals in this tournament go into 2 groups of 4 teams to play each other twice, and the 2 top of each group are the AFC qualifiers for the next Olympics.

2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil is only 16 months away.

GK Tegan Micah out. Micah has been the 1st choice keeper, ahead of Mackenzie Arnold. Chloe Lincoln from Brisbane Roar comes in. She hasn't been in good form. Brisbane have leaked more goals (29) than any side this year, including conceding 9 in the last 2 games. Hopefully Arnold and Jada Whyman can do the job.

Under 20's squad for the U20 Asian Cup in Thailand. Most of these players play weekly in the A League Women's competition. Only a couple I don't recall seeing this season are Clara Hoarau and Jasmine Black. (Both apparently based at overseas clubs - Hoarau in France with Fleury FC and Black is a GK in the US college system).

Some very talented players unavailable through injury include Sienna Saveska, Indiana Dos Santos and Grace Kuilamu.

Last 2 names in the squad list are on the trajectory to be picked up by overseas clubs. Also like Butrus for X factor, McMahon plays well for the ladder leaders Melbourne City, and Apostolakis, also currently at MC, has been around for years because she made her debut as 15yo at WSW - would be around the 100 game mark with A League and Junior representation combined. Younis is only 17yo but has played in 50+ A League games.

Squad of 22 to play games against Malawi and Kenya or India between 11 April - 14 April.

19 of the squad were part of the 26 player Asian Cup Squad. Three squad additions are Isabel Gomez (CCM) and Leticia McKenna (MC) from the A-League, and Jessika Nash who is currently playing in Italy.

A lot of the senior players are there. Fowler, Carpenter, Gorry are being rested and Cooney-Cross with some family related issues also not part of the squad.

Young Matildas leading 2-0 at half-time vs Chinese Taipei in the 1st game of the U20's Asian cup.

STARTING XI
Melegh GK,
Bertolissio, Dundas, Sullivan Apostolakis (c),
Trimis, Kruger, Prakash, Fuller,
Younis, Halmarick

1st goal from Skye Halmarick reacting fastest for the spills in front of 2 defenders after Zara Kruger struck the crossbar.

2nd goal had Talia Younis and Peta Trimis working the defenders over together on the right side of the pitch and Trimis eventually breaking forward and sending a ball across the face of goal with Tiana Fuller coming in with a run from the left to score from close range by shinning it in (jumping over the keeper after getting the scoring touch).

Territory dominated by Australia but lots of overhit balls and misread balls going out too wide or too long. It doesn't really matter in this game as Aust get the ball back within 30 seconds of losing possession.

3-0 Skye Halmarick getting her 2nd inside 5 min of the 2nd half start. Good ball in from Trimis, Younis trapped it to a dead stop at the top of the box and nudged it sideways to Halmarick who took a couple touches right of a central position moving inside the box then cut a low shot back across goal into the left corner.

4-0. 53 min. Fuller swung in a good cross from the left side and her CCM teammate Trimis was there to connect with it just inside the right post.

5-0. 62 min. Almost a calamity as Aust GK Melegh way up towards midfield kicked a ball hurriedly down the middle directly to an opponent but Skye Halmarick came up quickly to win the ball off that player from behind, then turned and sent a pass forward to the speedy Trimis coming in from the right wing, whose run got in front of the last defender and she was able to put the ball into the back of the net with a deflection off the Chinese Taipei GK.

Changes made 64 min
Fuller, Kruger and Younis off
Butrus, Cassar and O'Keefe on

Game started in the sunlight 37C, still 34C at Half time...now the pitch is almost covered in shadows.

2 more subs
70 min
Dale and Bennett on
Apostolakis and Halmarick off

Trimis took in some fluids and chucked up but was OK to continue.

FULL TIME 90 + 5 min
AUSTRALIA 5 - CHINESE TAIPEI 0
Goals: 2 Halmarick 2 Trimis 1 Fuller
