Don't think Chloe was playing well enough in any case for a Matildas recall but any dream she had at making the Matildas squad for the Asian Cup as a last hurrah is gone.

Had some great moments in her career. Scored the goal in our only ever win (1-0) against the USA and led the fightback in the 3-2 win against Brazil back in the 2019 World Cup after being down 0-2.

Foord with the winner in this morning's FIFA Women's Champions Cup Trophy. (I think it might have been an attempt to cross and the skew on the inside out kick off the boot at the right moment gave it the swerve away from the GK on that tight angle)

Kerr at Chelsea really struggling in the last couple of matches.

18 days before the Asian Cup begins with Matildas playing Philippines on March 1 and they still haven't announced the squad.

Announced now. Charli Grant not picked I see (know she's had a few injuries lately).

I had a look at the line ups for Tottenham in the Women's Super League on the weekend and Grant was listed in the unavailable section with injury beside the name.

Bit of a let down for me that they didn't pick some newer players who have been performing in the A-League eg: Annalise Rasmussen or Isabel Gomez. There's not a lot of new generation players in the squad.

Heard that Japan is on the same side of the draw as us, so just to get to a final we'd have to beat them along the way. Really think South Korea in the 3rd match might be tough because it's the 3rd game in a week and we have a squad of older players that have to travel back from Perth after the 1st game, and the other teams in our group - Philippines and Iran might have the discipline to defend for a draw.

Agree re your point about rolling out the same faces.

Suspect that someone like Daniela Galic is in that category of players who have just not had enough of an opportunity to play/put themselves in view of selectors in recent times. She's only 19 but was hoping she'd have advanced herself enough by now to be in a squad like this.

I just had a look at Galic's games. She played 87min for Vittsjo in a cup game on the weekend against Rosengard (which is Siemsen's team) so those stats about game time on Teo Pellizzeri's post might not be accurate/up to date (Siemsen also played 90m). Looks like the teams in Sweden have a long winter break between November and February. Galic turns 20yo in June, so she should still be eligible for U20's squad, but maybe not picked for these training camps. There'd be a bunch of players like Galic that should still be part of our next generation, or just over the 20yo age bracket that have moved to play in UK/ Europe. eg: Alana Murphy.

These are players named in the current U20's and U17's training camps. There's a few missing through injury I would guess. Grace Kuilamu and Indiana Dos Santos spring to mind, out with ACL injuries. Most of the U20's play in the A League. Don't know many of the U17's - except Pearson, Corbett and Jugovic are some that have been playing A League.

UNDER 20's.

Pretty much what I expected - was slightly surprised to see Chids back but then she's been starting regularly in Italy (it's hard to get a grip on the quality of the various European leagues).

This big generational changes will come after the Asian Cup.

There will be ongoing play-offs from this tournament for Olympic Qualification in 2028.

Matildas have to make it to a certain point in this tournament to qualify for play-offs for the next Olympics which is basically the next round. Only 4 of the 12 teams are eliminated after the group stage in this tournament so 2 of the 3 teams that finish 3rd in the group stage go on to Quarter finals.

The 8 teams that make quarter finals in this tournament go into 2 groups of 4 teams to play each other twice, and the 2 top of each group are the AFC qualifiers for the next Olympics.

2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil is only 16 months away.
