I think the recruitment of Jordan and what we paid him on a 3 year deal pretty much sums up why we are currently in the position we are in.
McMahon is reported to be on a 330k a year deal for 3 years. We gave away pick 19, he isn't playing seniors, doesn't appear to have a future at the club and has a year remaining on his contract.

Why bring this up again? Reading the article about what clubs felt that Cyril Rioli is worth made my blood boil.

(quote) Officials from rival clubs estimated that, in weighing up potential, star quality and his inexperience compared to seasoned teammates, Rioli ought to be paid about $300,000 in 2010, with the amount increasing thereafter.

One football department official, well-versed in salary-cap management, said Rioli was worth $1.2 million to $1.5 million over three years, but that the starting point — for 2010 — should be about $300,000.(end quote)

We've been run by fools.

I absolutely agree regarding the amount we are paying him.....but it must be said that Jordan was considered amongst the elite portion of Bulldogs playing list prior to having his fallout with the club.

Hmm, I would like to hear the Bulldogs supporters' opinions on that. I would have thought he was considered a potential elite member of the Bulldog's squad of outside running players.

The bottom line is we tanked our last game that season to pick up McMahon. Not good enough. We had 3 picks inside the top 20 plus pick 35 and we used two of them to get McMahon and Morton.

he should be in the side ahead of Polo or raines, has considerably more to offer and actually has the ability to hurt the opposition with his run, evasivenss and carry , there aint to many of our players that can lay claims to that

After watching at AMMI then the 2 games live last weekend I couldnt agree more.

He just wasn't the right player for us at our stage of development. I know it's often said here that he only looks good when we are winning, but it's the truth.

If we were a top 6 side heading into 2008 I would have been all for it, as I believe that McMahon would be that little bit of icing on the cake for a good side.

However, since we were still developing the move didn't make any sense, he's just not a footballer than can help get a team out of the doldrums.

And what we had to give up for him and then what we paid for him is just a ridiculous amount. Richmond really need to step up this part of their recruitment as these types of decisions have killed us over the past decade.

:)Arguably true that he was among their elite.

Though, I doubt you'll get a Bulldogs supporter to admit that.

They're a bitter and twisted a lot for the most part with a tendency to rewrite history.

They're bitter of the way Wallace departed and refuse to acknowledge that at one point he was an astute game-day tactician, who actually took a couple of average teams to preliminary finals, thus getting everything out of an above average playing list.

They would also have you believe Nathan Brown is ordinary when Blind Freddy could see his season with us in which he broke his leg was clearly his best til that point in time.

These same people have not a good word to say about Wayne Campbell's time with their club, even though their coach Rodney eade speaks in volumes about his contribution and credentials!!

It is his 2nd season with the club. It's also mcMahon's 2nd season. Both were traded at the end of the 2007 season.

did you ever consider that he might be a factor in those wins...its a nothing remark to suggest he only plays well when we win...like I only punt badly when I lose:eek:

I considered it and then dismissed it. His best games were when we played shite teams who we smacked by 6 goals plus. He was close to BOG in games against Melbourne, Fremantle, West Coast etc. but after a loss I've never thought "You know what, McMahon played well today".

Players can play well in a loss you know, McMahon is not one of those players.

go back over your notes....and advise whp consistently played well in losses

Nah, Polo is definately the best of these 3 imo. Once he has another 20 games into him, he won't be stopping with ball then waiting for the opponent to apply the tackle before giving it off. We've seen in the past he has no problem wrong footing opponents, baulking and getting around them. He got tackled once against Melbourne and went into his shell a bit, but when has starts playing with full confidence he'll be miles ahead of Raines and Mcmahon. He's alot harder at it than Mcmahon and has alot more composure than both of these guys, while he's pretty capable on both feet. Stick with him :thumbsu:

what makes it even worse is looking at the players that were selected at and after that pick:
19- callan ward
20- tony notte
21- addam maric
22- scott selwood
23- tayte pears
24- clayton hinkley
25- tom collier
26- brett meredith
27- andy otten
28- marlon motop
29- brendan whitecross

Polo is bloody awful and to make matters worth for a supposed 'tough' player he has complete muppet arms (I can't stand watching him - giant head with a puny body).

While I'm ranting Pattison is another nothing player - can't ruck, can't kick, can't mark - yes he has a bloody tank but for what purpose? so he can run around and be useless (I'm sure he is a lovely bloke but we are never going to be successful if we have any sort of dependance on him)

I think it was a mistake trading our picks and getting Mcmahon however at least has pace and can run the lines, definitely a class above Polo, Raines (although still remember the job he did on Ricciuto so I hold some sort of hope) and even Tambling who has meant to have pace but i'll be buggered if I ever see him running at full pelt and being damaging ala Lovett (I can't believe how much Essendon has leap frogged us so quickly, truely is depressing).

Anyway we have completely ****ed out recruiting and we'll have to wait 5 years for G17 raid the youth then another 5 for West Sydney.

Forget about Terry's 5 year plan our next coach we get will need a 15 year contract for the rebuild.

So all things going well our premiership window should be cherry ripe for 2020 - 2025

Deledio
Richardson
Tuck
Johnson (believe it or not)
Foley
Brown
Riewoldt
Simmonds
Pattison

Obviously talking about last year as McMahon can't get a game this year so last year is all we have to go off for him for comparisons.

bullshit to most of those...Simmonds and Brown being the biggest culprits in our glorious start to this year...with opponents sharing BOG spoils ea round...Riewoldt huh...gimmee a break...Tuck perhaps, might give you that one...Foley & lids raise more questions than answers right now...

Would love either of these two running around for us.

You must have missed the part where I said that I was analysing 2008 losses, for numerous reasons, one being we are not even half way through the year so its not a great sample to pick from, and two, this thread is about McMahon, and since he has barely played this year, for comparison reasons I chose 2008.

Simmonds was very good all year last year, while Brown was also fairly consistent with his play. Tuck as always was very consistent, and Foley was a lot better with more consistent play last year as well. Riewoldt was consistently bobbing up with goals and Deledio (as shown by his Jack Dyer Medal, which can only be rewarded for consistency really) was brilliant all year.

Pattison while not being a superstar was pretty consistent with his performances, rarely having a shocker, and Kane Johnson was good too despite the crticism he cops here.

And then of course there is Richo who was ever so close to a Brownlow.

Polo is almost the right size for afl. About 6'2" and 85kg. As for Patto, he's a ruckman. What do you want from a ruckman? He can kick btw. Mcmahon is what you call muppet arms

Well his head must weigh 35 kgs,

I must of missed all of those hitouts to advantage and his effective field kicks, will keep an eye out this week.
