Human League, Frankie, The Cult - all magnificent!!!

Saw The Cult at The Venue in St.Kilda (oh, how we miss thee) back in...'87 (???). When Love Removal Machine kicked in with that stolen riff and kick drum, the squeezed in sweaty goth crowd heaving as one, and Ian Astbury on top of the Marshall stacks screaming "Baby, baby, baby!!!!" - some kinda rock 'n roll heaven, I tell ya!

I was there too!!! Got some serious bruising being shoved up against the stage, was fantastic :thumbsu:.

Can't remember if it was there also, but pretty sure I saw Echo and the Bunnymen at The Venue??

I think it was the hair - I was more keen on the Annie Lennox type. I'm incredibly shallow.
This one isn't a guilty pleasure.

Liked it when I first heard it, still stands up well now.

...and some of us spent some of our pre-teen-youth in a dark studio clapping along to this...still love Jo!

Did you actually go to the Countdown recordings? I wanted to go there so badly, but didn't know how to get tickets lol o_O

Truth be told, Love is a Stranger is in my top 5 pop singles of all time - it really changed my life.

Late '82, and I can still remember seeing and hearing it for the first time on Countdown. When Annie pulled off that wig to reveal that cropped cut of red hair in the back of the limo, then started writhling about the bathroom floor in black wig, with scissors and black boots - my childhood was seriously over.

"Guilty pleasure" songs is a great topic.

Here's a couple of songs I just love, and listen to when I'm certain no-one can hear me (I can hear you all laughing already :p:D);

Absolutely nothing wrong with "Dream On". It's a shame a lot of Aerosmith's early albums are forgotten, it's still their best work.

Lived down the road from the studios Karen - you would just rock up on a Thursday night, around 5, and they would let you in. Went to quite a few around '81-'82. I can see myself on Youtube with my cousin and sister while Simple Minds play Love Song - fun days. Pop was really great then.

Some of the music starting to appear makes me think I should go out and by a slab of Woodstock Bourbon & Cola pre-mix. :D

So, to get into the spirit. One of my favourite "guilty pleasure" tunes...

Get game and post yours and open yourself up to ridicule.

There's no guilt at all in liking that opening riff.

The Bunnymen may have played there - didn't see it, sadly. You must have been underage like me to see The Cult - they didn't care back then. Even saw Icehouse, pre-mullet thankfully, at The Venue when I was 15.
Think I was about 14 when I started going to gigs. StKilda was the place to do it, never once got asked for ID.

The Seaview Ballroom was the best, they even let us stay in their hotel rooms for free (think they knew how young we were and took a little pity on us :)).

Getting a little weirded out with the Annie Lennox talk :D. My dad (who's 74) still has a major "thing" for Annie, and plays her song, Sweet Dreams, at times no daughter needs to know about :cry:.

So got some guilty pleasures you're prepared to share Partridge?

We don't judge...just s****** at each other.

Think it is a pretty diverse cross section we have in here at the moment.

To show Partridge just how different (bad :D) my guilty pleasure songs are, here's a couple of songs that I like, that even my daggiest girlfriend tells me are daggy!

Pivotonian, have you given us your 'worst of the worst' yet? Was Mambo number 5 just the entree? Come on, time for the main!!! Won't be as bad as mine.

If only I'd known!
Should I study that clip to try and spot you lol! Did you have a mullet? Perm? Tails?

lol - I'm about 10, my sister 8 - skinny little buggers. Most of the time the audience was pre-teen, hence the high-pitched screaming.

Before my time, sadly, but Iggy on Countdown is legendary - the kids just don't move, silently, seriously, in fear...

"Mambo #5" isn't, I don't think, a guilty pleasure for me because I simply don't listen to it anymore (even when I posted it I didn't play it).

Haven't heard it for years actually. But did remember it leading into Primal Scream on a certain mix tape from the late 90s which I find amusing.

I think a guilty pleasure has to be something that, try as you might, you find you keep listening to it even though you know you shouldn't be.

So no, I haven't provided the "worst" guilty pleasure I have.

Haven't seen that version of the clip before, guess that answers my question. Cheers (I think ;))

Same.
It's like I still listen to dexys midnight runners, Culture club, or Uncanny xmen.

I wouldn't think so.
There's a lot of crap on my iPhone, but I don't listen to them.
And if I'm playing on shuffle I skip them if they come up.
