Out of the younger guys who do you actually think will help Freo this year?

IMO Sherro will keep slowly improving and is someone who is becoming more important to the side.

Weller still has a long way to go but could be playing a bit of AFL this year.

Tabs has doubters but I feel if he clicks he'll be vitality important to Freo come finals.

We all want Tabs to be the one but I think the evidence suggests it's a long shot. For every good thing he does, he does 3 ordinary things, he can run all day but his hands are awful. He has been discussed on this board more than Troy Longmuir back in Connolly's days but he will play most games because we need height.

Sheridan should give us plenty of bounce and get opportunities to create play. His curve has been promising, slow and steady and this year looks like it could go close to peaking.

Weller looks closest to being picked for rd1, he looks like the player we need, an extra line breaker especially if Hill plays down back.

Darcy Tucker will get my vote, my tip is he breaks into the team halfway through The season and is a lock, the next Heath Black.

Grey will be my pick , not too flash but hard at it. Kicking need improvement.

He's an interesting one isn't he?

I know it was only one NAB game against a depleted Tigers side, and we're all guilty of wanting to see the shiny new toys have a crack out of being used to the same old brigade.... But he didn't look out of place at all in the second half.
Even in the first half when he was clearly struggling with nerves he was still getting to all the right positions, even if his disposal let him down.

First years generally get a taste of it when they've earned it, but they never become best 22 straight up. We're a damn hard team to break into. But he looks absolutely plug/play. Very impressive debut it was.

That fills me with enthusiasm :thumbsu:

Yeah i'm gonna have to go with Darcy Tucker too.

I consider Sheridan a lock and so thus, shouldn't be part of the topic. Guys like Weller, Langdon, Grey & Hughes are the next few knocking on the door.

... And Crozier, if he ever returns from holidays.

*that may have been a bit harsh*

Croz is going to be trade bait.

This is what I don't get, wasn't he one of the first back at training when he didn't need to be there for another fortnight or so? According to our illustrious training reporters he was vocal, energetic and showing good leadership.

So what the hell is going on?

Maybe just not good enough

Weller needs to be fast tracked. He has shown enough that he's going to be a very good player.
Whats the point of having him at Peel while we play the likes of C Pearce and Mz?
We desperately need more class and pace. Weller has it in spades.
C.Pearce is our 23 player today. Gu got 2 good Nab one bad I think a bit unfair to target gu.

you have to target someone to fit a new player into the team. There isn't any malice in it. I like Gu but someone has to go.
Gu is a decent footballer but his disposal is terrible at times. Go back and watch our last game against Hawthorn last year. Gu put his body on the line and won a decent amount of ball but he slaughtered it and gave it back practically every time. That was the difference in that game. Hawthorn kept possession and used the ball well, we didn't.

I rather play with one mobile ruck clarke , and squeeze Weller in . sorry to Griff than gu. Griff got two bad game.

The quicker we can get Alex to 50 games the better, he has shown that he has some footy nous and ability to back it up. We should be playing him as the loose defender similar to Weitering for Carlton. Give him some freedom to grow now so when we need him to start taking the No1 or 2 key forward in 2 years time his is physically ready and confident.

Our backline has quite a few replacements in waiting. Grey, Hughes and Collins are still awhile away but I would hope they might be able to get a taste later in the year of some AFL football. Would be great if we could give them 2-3 games in a row (not all at the same time obviously). As soon as Alex Pearce is ready to go and has dusted off the cobwebs he should be locked in the best 22.

Due to our inside midfield depth I think Blakely might be awhile away from breaking into the 22 permanently but he should be looking at getting quite a few games this season for his development. Langdon and Weller I believe can come into the best 22 straight away and improve the team. Both have confidence and natural ability, with AFL game time their skills will only get better. I think they both offer more than Mzungu/Suban/Clancee.

Although I am excited by the cameos that Weller has offered over the NAB, Langdon is the one that I have been impressed with at training. I also think in the couple of games last year he did well. He has maybe been set back a bit by the flu a few weeks ago, but I think he will be the one to become best 22 this year.

This is the one thing that kind of gets on my nerves. "We need height." No, we don't. We just have some crazy stubborn coaches who don't realise that playing someone purely for their physical stature is just about the stupidest thing we could do. If you have a strength (a glut of midfield runners) exploit it. The thing that makes it even stupider is the fact that Taberner does not take pack marks. He only takes marks on the lead or doubling back. Marks that aren't contested. His size, therefore is completely irrelevant
