Freak of a player, still have no idea if he's going to have an awesome career in the midfield or in the forward line.

You finally get a young goalkicking forward who has genuine size (192cm, 91kg), and you can't wait to put him in the midfield...

Forward who can pinch hit in the middle.

Club would be insane to take that firepower out of our forward line. Particularly as we already have a great young midfield.

Stringer is at least 194cms now. Stats out of date

So where does all this "he's not big enough to be a key forward" rubbish come from then?

This.

It's really just best to stick with what works and play to a player's strengths, instead of trying to re-invent the wheel. Not every player with skill and athleticism needs to become a midfielder to become a "complete" player.

On the other hand, look at him on the burst and how he either shrugs tackles or just forces his way through. That's something that everyone could love

Bev is smart enough not to push String out of the forward line for long periods. He's our spearhead. Just don't take firepower out of the forward line willy nilly.

It increases his freshness though. Thats why he is able to do those things. If he's tired which he would be play predominately mid then he would drop off. I don't think he really is the accumulator in their. He's a 20 possession 3 + goal player.

I think how we play him now is perfect. 80 - 90% forward and pinch hit when things aren't swinging our way. Not to mention if he is struggling forward then I'm all for a fair stint in the middle.

But when he shrugs tackles in the forward line and creates goals that his biggest asset.

Agree, the only time Stringer should go into the midfield is at center bounces, and then only a few times a game.

I'd almost not bother with putting him in for the bounce. Just send him around to stand on the edge of the square at CHB and tell him to run right through the contest.

Because some people are still in the mindset that you have to be 197cm+ to be a key forward these days.

There's fewer successful 197cm+ key forwards getting around at the moment than 191-196cm types.

Anything over 191cm/91kg is fine size-wise for a key forward/defender. Bordering on being ruckman-sized (a la Tom Boyd) helps, but it's not a pre-requisite.
