It's been mentioned a few times across multiple threads that certain players have been dispatched to the magoos for failing to comply with non-negotiable team based rules of play. I wonder what the invioble involves and what it sets out to achieve? I wonder how many rules are listed as never to be broken?

I invite you all to take a guess. Or if you are as clueless as I am name something you would like to be on the list.

My guess? I would say that there is a team rule stating that players must play on without delay when inside our defensive 50, whether by hand or foot. I think this is designed to ensure we give ourselves a better than good chance at beating the defensive run and providing our forwards with an uncluttered paddock to lead into. Having said that I also think there is a team call for slowing it down, only to be invoked when we are trying to protect a lead.

What's your guess?

I think thats too broad a play to be a non negotiable. Theres always going to be moments when slowing down the play is necessarily.

What I think is non negotiable are tackles and pressure. 0 tackles laid = dropped which explains both Lonie and Lee being dropped.

There are things that even the worst player in a vafa d4 side can do that an AFL player can,

tackle
Pressure
Chase
Block
Talk

You get 22 guys In a side doing that then you're well on the way to being competitive, all that's required is "effort"

There's a whiteboard in Richo's office that reads;

SAINTS MAN

AGGRESSIVE

In Attack
In Defence
On the Ball
On the Man

TEAM
Great at Role
Willing to Sacrifice
Selfless

DO WHAT'S RIGHT
Respect to All
Preparation
Role in Building the St.Kilda FC Brand

Then in black underneath those sections it has what looks to be like things that will motivate and drive the playing group;

Quotes: Journalists
Actions: On-Field Performance
Our History: 140+ Years (___, 1 Premiership)
Family: Photo of ____ family

Simply, you have to tackle and put on pressure.

After 6 rounds it is obvious that our gameplan revolves around pressure and spread. pressure and spread

If we don't pressure, we cant then spread. We go very very wide in attack that opens up the ground. If the corridor is protected we just keep going around the boundary.

However it is based on possession from contested possessions and turnovers, that way the opposition hasn't the time to get their zone back.

How many times have you seen an out the back goal by the Saints this year? The games we won and the two we played well in, we were catching the opposition out with this gameplan. Our smaller forwards kick goals.

If the opposition blocks off the boundary with their zone, we either switch as the opposition has either moved from the corridor leaving it free, or moved the whole zone across leaving the opposite boundary free., or go up the middle. This is where Bruce, McCartin and Riewoldt comes into their own.

Anyway, the non negotiatable is pressure on the ball carrier. You don't pressure, you don't tackle you are in Sandy stripes. Ask Lee, Lonie, and Acres from earlier in the season.
