I wonder if the AFL would surreptitiously take actions to shift them to Tassie if they have another financial shocker.
Perhaps the AFL will advise them strongly to take over the Launceston market once the Hawks deal ends. It seems to solve the problem of games in Tas and $$$ to the Saints, and the Hawks playing out of Etihad will cover the contract requirements of that stadium and bring in $$$.

The interesting thing is if the AFL sees higher total revenue/profit from having them play 7 games in Tassie, then they may push for that.

We may be shunted out of Hobart after being shunted out of Ballarat.

Potentially.

That though depends on a number of factors, including St. Kilda's desire to do so. That then also would be a reflection of our strength, I doubt the AFL would want to set one club up in Tassie only to face potentially another club (us) facing significant hardship as a consequence and then be left with no alternative market to fill.

A Saints and North presence in Tassie for 3 games each strikes me as a perfect balance for the AFL. Both still play home games at Etihad, both has the potential for growth in membership and revenue meaning less chance of bail outs from the AFL. This then just leaves them with Brisbane, GC and GWS as their main ongoing concerns.

They are being made to pay, big time, from crashing very quickly following a successful spell.

They are probably pumping a similar amount into their football department than they were in 2010, which isn't the way to do it when rebuilding for a small club.

You need to strip everything back, strip wages completely back, pump the little spare you can get into development and recruiting and batten down the hatches.....

They are lucky they managed to offload Goddard and NDS tbh, I'm pretty sure they were paying like 104% of the cap last year and came second last.

They spent 19,453,217 on Football department in 2013, they reduced it to 19,288,028 in 2014 but you have to ask where the money is going.

We spent 16,902,889 in 2013, so they spent 2,550,328 more than we did last year on the football department, I am not sure what cost is associated with them sacking people all over the place, that might be a significant factor.

Their corporate side of things is also pretty low, they had 5,560,928 revenue from sponsorship and events this year, 1,722,891 net. Last year we had 7,869,006 from sponsorship and events (net amount of 4,860,394).

I remember when JB first took over the club he mentioned that the club had a lot of sponsorship and event type of arrangements, with many of them costing more to facilitate than they brought in money and we went through a transition period where we ended the arrangement which were not financially viable.

When you look at our sponsorship and events program, we end up with 62% of the revenue net, Saints only end up with 31% of the revenue net so they have had a significant course change because I remember JB said he talked to the CEO of St Kilda because they had at the time 5 years ago or whatever it was been at the forefront of ensuring they have very positive arrangements with their sponsors.

Something has changed radically at the club, because we looked to them as an example of what we had to do in order to survive as a club in Melbourne, they and Geelong were setting the benchmark for sustainability with relatively low revenue base. Geelong this year is also going to rack up a loss for the first time in 15 years.

It wont happen, not after they dumped Tassie when the sun rose on their contender period.

Saints have a profitable thing happening with the NZ game they played there, I think they will need to commit to an arrangement with NZ before Hawthorn's deal expires with Launceston, because the Hawks have been sniffing around NZ as a likely replacement for Tasmania if they get pushed out of there by the AFL.

It has a bit of the musical chairs feel about it, I think clubs will be keen to get their arses on a chair before the music stops.

What about Gold Coast, GWS, Freo and West Coast.

I'd laugh for days if West Coast was in the s**t

All are franchises.

Clubs have an origin in a community that built them from the ground up.
