No can't say I have. But I never lost a game of Monopoly in my life. Unbeatable at that game

I would so challenge you if there was a way to do so.

Sigh... I feel like I've got nothing to say about these off-topic topics. rarely ever a common topic to get chatting on. I don't watch TV, and my music tastes differ quite a bit to everyone here. Even gaming seems to be somewhat isolated... sigh.

Does anyone here believe in God? Serious question though and I'm not judging
I grew up in a christian family and I'd say I do believe that it's possible. I'm certainly not a practicing christian by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't really care what people think though - it's an individual thing.

Here's one, anyone played the monopoly deal card game?

Usurps UNO as the as the king of quick card games imo.

Hmm, I've heard some interesting things about Monopoly Deal.

In terms of quick card games, Boom-o was far and away the best game I've ever played. If only I could get a deck of those cards now.

Thanks for that honest answer

What are you music tastes FT. I'm thinking prog rock?

TV doesn't dictate to you, don't be silly.

Art is art. Art is there to be interpreted, and to make you feel certain things. Whether that is paintings, music, movies, TV, books, etc. they all open a way of thinking to people, and way of interpreting things that is personal and subjective.
Well that's true, but spend your life watching box sets and I don't think that will be particularly liberating for you. In my experience music lovers are more free spirited people. There is a connection with music that goes deeper than other art forms

In your opinion.

Seriously though, what do you get out of watching these shows from an artistic viewpoint SM? It's just laid on entertainment, that's all. Just some money making scheme that will keep rolling on until viewers dwindle through lack of interest. There's no art involved in it

Shows make you think about things you wouldn't have otherwise considered. They invite you into environments and cultural contexts you may not have otherwise experienced. They make you think and can challenge you to pick twists and turns, they can bring people together and fuel passions.

Plenty of music is soulless and made for money.

The same thing can be said about music :s

Plenty of music is indeed soulless and money orientated but not the stuff I tend to like.

You made a good job of sexing up TV. If I saw some posts exploring those themes I dare say I may even be inclined to try and watch one or two. Problem is I doubt those things are really prevelant in your average viewer. And at the end if the day it's a script mate, and by and large it's laid on for you - all the thinking that is. You have to consider that for a show to be a success it most be grasped by the masses - that automatically means anything mentally challenging is lost.

You know it's true

No I don't, you're being silly. You point to bland, generic TV shows and make out that they represent all of TV, but when I do the same for music it's all "Oh, but that's not what I listen to." Maybe most of us don't watch those sorts of shows?

Hell this discussion started with one of the best TV shows of all time, West Wing, which is incredibly intelligent, gripping viewing.

You seem to struggle with this. Notice how you don't like things?

Other people can also not like things. Other people can also like things that you don't like.

Go on then, how has the West Wing enlightened you?

This notion that shows have to have a mass-appeal to be successful is also ridiculously dated. Shows on Netflix/Pretso/Stan/Amazon etc. can thrive and do well despite having smaller audiences.

Shows aren't mass-produced in some cookie-cutter style that WR seems to think they are.

Mr Robot, for instance, is a brilliantly thought provoking commentary on the way that technology has pervaded our lives. Has WR given that a go despite our conversations on here about it? I doubt it.

Stranger Things is a great pastiche of 1980's thriller/Sci-Fi and explores a lot of very real themes about the loss of a child while also providing great entertainment and interesting twists.

The list goes on.

But it's the same as with music. We post things that are great and interesting, and he'll refuse to listen, or just say "Nah I don't like it therefore it's bad."

Go on then, how has the West Wing enlightened you?

I could think of dozens of examples. Season 1 ended with the President and his entourage being shot at, and the season 2 premiere deals with the fall out from that as one of the cast fights for his life, and there is a very passionate argument/debate about gun control laws and their effects on people.

Charlie, a black intern, assumes he is applying for a job as essentially a janitor, but is given the job of personal aid to the President, and at various times in the show he discusses his upbringing with his mother being a black cop.

A special episode was aired following 9/11 where the role of Muslims in the community and the changing perceptions of them would have a profound effect on people, but that people needed to continue living their lives as normal.

A Hispanic man runs for the Presidency in the final season and deals with all of the racial issues that come with that.

There are plenty more I could list as well but those were the four that came to mind first. I haven't re-watched the show in a number of years, Jatz might be better placed to help you out.

Or, you know, you could watch it.

Ah diddums I can't get my voice heard so I call for a thread ban!

Lol

You came in this morning and outright asked for people to argue with you because you were bored. You then complained because everyone was in agreement that The West Wing is a brilliant show. You've then picked fights with: Me in numerous places, Cruyff through personal abuse, Chef by saying he's too optimistic and Gosha was better, and Jod for agreeing that West Wing is a good show. Just cool off and get a life, if coming on Big Footy and picking fights is your only source of entertainment.

lol there is so much wrong with this post I don't even know where to start. You are so closed minded it isn't worth discussing anything.

And instead of asking people to justify why a show is worthy enough for you to watch, go and watch it and form your own opinion instead of just shitcanning everything based on your naive stereotypes.

You know you can argue with someone and not fall out. We do it all the time in the pub.

Anyway, Cruyff aside who I no longer have any time for, it was he who abused me first in another thread and then asked for a thread ban in here. I've not argued with anyone else, you just choose to see it that way cos you are a sensitive type. That's not a criticism btw

Jatz chef can WR be threadbanned for a bit? Done nothing but come in and act like an arseh*le and deliberately look for a fight.
We can't ban someone for being a negative nancy, even if I think his argument is hilarious.

I'd suggest using the ignore function for a little while if it's irking you.

I asked him to justify it

It's a pretty good summation but there's plenty more that could be included.

How they dealt with John Spencer's death was superb.

Then you have Donna's trip to the middle east etc.

I won't post too much more so not to ruin it for JD but you get the idea.
