Conversation is moving because you got called out on making a bullshit point, and instead of defending it you are trying to change the subject.
I’ve not made any “bullshit point”. And far from defending anything I’ve said, I’ve actually elaborated on it. If you want to engage with me on this then don’t get so chippy. Try being a grown-up for a change

Oh deary me. Just when you thought there’s no way they could make a bigger tit out of themselves, they do just that.

Are you gay?

I only ask because if you're not you have absolutely zero authority to talk about what gay people experienced - and in many cases still experience - on a daily basis.
No I’m not gay but I’ve had gay friends I’ve talked in depth and at length with.

Come out mate don’t be that guy. You just spend your time ragging on others without ever saying anything yourself.

No you haven't, all you've said is "from my experience". Your experience is not the world, it's your closeted little view of it. There are countless accounts of gay people being abused violently and emotionally from back in your brilliant days when everyone apparently loved each other. You are just flat out wrong here and have provided not one shred of evidence to support your arguments apart from dubious personal accounts.

Not every black person is called the N word, not every woman is whistled at.

We can all pick out instances like this from any particular year including this one. It doesn’t prove a thing

Does it prove that gay men get discriminated against? By the way, that was a 2 second google search. Imagine if i had actually spent some time on it.

So what trumps ones own personal experience? You can’t trust the Media mate it’s all spun one way or another surely you’ve worked that out by now. Your own personal experiences and perhaps those of your closest friends and family should define you - not some left wing rag like the Guardian which no doubt you take your cue from

I don’t need to say anything in this instance, it’s already been said by others just above.
Making things worse with every post and every new contradiction.

I’m sorry but the world is not more close minded than it used to be, tolerance of others is far greater than before. The fact steps are being taken to address LGBT equality shows that, the fact that here alone steps have been taken to repair past damage and increase tolerance and acceptance of indigenous Australians shows that.

Both groups were shunned and persecuted in decades past. Now it is deemed unacceptable to do so.

So what trumps ones own personal experience?

Pretty much everything.

ethnocentrism

[eth-noh-sen-triz-uh m]
noun
1.
Sociology. the belief in the inherent superiority of one's own ethnicgroup or culture.
2.
a tendency to view alien groups or cultures from the perspective of one's own.

You are ethnocentric.

The media is not the only account of world history. Police reports, court records, coroners reports that are based on acts of violence against LGBTI people are these all spin as well? If you only trust your own personal experience then you are going to experience the world in a very limited way and never get the full picture, which goes a long way to explaining why you are such a closed minded individual.

I think claiming that gay people were never/are never abused while walking down the street is one of the most ridiculous things you've ever said on here and that's saying a lot.

No I’m not gay but I’ve had gay friends I’ve talked in depth and at length with.

And your gay friends say they've never experienced any form of abuse/vilification while walking down the street? I find that ridiculously hard to believe.

You are being as one sided on this as you say I am. I never saw intolerance of gays, blacks or any other group. Colourful language may have been used but no one got upset about it. You dont have to believe me but that’s the way it was. Somewhere down the line the liberal elite got involved and somehow you have ended up with greater division between us all. The world is certainly not in a better state now than it was 30 years ago. I can’t get on the tube without fear of being blown up. Far more tension out there. As I said, the reasons for this are varied, but I’m the one doing the sums here and I’m the one who’s lived through it, not you

No I said I never witnessed it, and I was out and about all the time in my youth. We found gays entertaining. Most of them have a wicked sense of humour and are as far removed from the liberal killjoys like you as one can get

Letting yourself down massively mate. To claim no one got upset about it is to ignore the huge suicide rates in the LGB community, to ignore the huge rates of depression among people struggling with the stigma attached to their orientation. To say that it was better in the old days when you could call people any name under the sun is to defend your right to be bigoted and essentially putting the "offence" felt by these people at their feet. You regularly trumpet the horn of "victim-blaming" being a no-no and yet that's essentially what you're doing here.

So because you didn't see it that means it didn't happen? We should ignore the thousands of accounts of violence and abuse against LGBT people that are factually recorded because you didn't happen to be there at the time?

Do you see what's wrong with your argument?

Having lived through it you might recall that being gay was actually illegal in Australia not that long ago. Still think the world is not in a better state?

Do you know why there's such a large Jewish presence in comedy in the US? Because a lot of them said that in order to put up with the comments they received as a youth, they spun it into a humorous retort. That it was better to laugh than cry, and from there a sense of humour and comedy developed. I can't speak for the "entertaining gays" you encountered, but to suggest that just because they smiled and laughed along with your jokes they weren't internalising a lot of hurt and anguish is incredibly narrow-minded and insensitive. Again I would just point at the rates of depression and suicide amongst the LGB community as evidence for that.

This is abuse, not just intolerance. And it's contradiction.

Well I don’t live in a rat race city. Down on the surf coast amongst the beaches and coastal towns, in proximity to a regional my personal experience is one that never worries about being blown up. We’re too small to be a target.

There were radicals way back when that blew shit up too. IRA comes to mind.
