So Parks and Rec! How brilliant is this show?

Only the truly funny sitcoms can make me belly enough and this is one of those shows. Some of my favourite scenes are the ones with Ron and his second wife, Tammy (Nick Offerman’s wife). 😂

Have you watched The Good Place? It, Parks & Rec and The Office (US) are all the same people I'm fairly sure.

I have never watched any of those shows, however, my brother has been trying to get me to watch The Office for a while. So it’s right there in the back of my mind to watch.

Parks & Rec was originally planned as a spin off (only very tangentially) to The Office which is why they're shot in a very similar way.

Thanks for the info mate! I was actually wondering why they are shot in the same way (I have watched bits and pieces of The Office).

I never understood why anyone likes The Office. It's shite compared to the UK version which is basically perfect television.

Probably because they're entirely different types of show and people can like the type of show The Office US is? Or do you dislike Parks & Rec too?

Every time I rewatch an episode I can't help thinking that Gervais' performance as David Brent is one of the greatest comedic performances of all time. His 'camera awareness' (for want of a better term) in that mockumentary shooting style is actually phenomenal in the way he positions himself in the closeups, or the way he can make a line 10x funnier by glancing at the camera when delivering it. That style has been replicated so many times but I've never seen anyone look as natural as he does in The Office.

Confession. Never liked UK or US office.
Same. Haven given both a full season 1 watch and just didn't grab me. I did think it was mostly the style of the show but I do like Parks and Rec so don't know.

Knowing you as I do I reckon you’re better pushing on a bit with the US Office. That first season was leaning far into the story of the UK version and hadn’t opened up with its characters due to constant threat of axing. Parks and Rec was the same.

US Office S1 was weak though it only became good from S2, much like Parks & Rec.

Absolutely. Gervais as David Brent is a masterpiece and then on top of that it's so brilliantly written and all the other actors are perfect. Like Gareth Keenan, the original Dwight Schrute I guess is so good, subtle but believable as a character whereas Dwight Schrute is a moron and not really someone who would really exist.

The American version is slapstick for mine and pretty shit. Apart from a few good memes that came out of the show from Steve Carrell, it's a hard pass.

UK Office though is perfect.

Didn't you say you'd only seen the first season of the US one?

Loved UK Office and was very sceptical about US version. Was just as brilliant and hilarious imo. Far from slapstick. Carell leaving didn’t help but he was superb

The US Dwight Schrute is absolutely a character that exists in the real world. I've worked with such people before.
