To be honest my first thought was about whether the football would be cancelled this weekend. What are we meant to think? An old lady died, I didn’t know her, I don’t have any emotional feeling about it.

I understand the significance and that other people will feel differently, but I have no deep feeling about it.

Maybe not "Oh God now the news is going to be all about her".

When a senior political figure dies there's a fair bit of coverage, and she's as senior as they come.

Yeah who knows if the football will be postponed but we'll find out when we find out, who cares in the meantime.

I had to turn the radio off on my drive to work so I understand what he means. The mourning is just not for me.

You don't have any interest in coverage of one of the most stable political figure in not only our but our parents' lives? It's a pretty historic moment that will never be repeated. As said before, I'm not a Monarchist so I don't care about the royal family she represents but purely as a figure of history it's pretty momentous.

Yeah of course it’s interesting. I woke my partner up and told her before I left for work, it’s definitely a significant moment in time.

I won’t be consuming any in depth coverage about it though, just doesn’t interest me.

For me it's the fact that yes it's sad, yes she was a political leader but we just know the entire next 10 days is going to be nothing but about her which can be covered relatively quickly. That and there's other shit going on in the world that's more important.

Fair enough. Think for today a bit of coverage is ok.

I don't think it's going to be wall-to-wall after today. They're even saying there's likely no postponement of football over the weekend, so maybe before some get so outraged about it they should see how it plays out.

It will be in the UK.

Don't think that's true mate. The fact they're saying the Palace doesn't want everything stopped for her after today and want to get things back to normal suggests it won't be. Plus they've just sworn in a new PM.

When she was alive, I barely gave a toss about the Royal Family, no matter which person it was. The whole concept of the Royal Family seemed weird to me. But you can understand all the news coverage there will be after her 70 years as the Queen.

Eventually everyone will move on with their lives and that will happen in the next 2-3 days.

If it happens, it happens. You’d think most people could do 1 week of no-football, standing on their head, after being without any sport for months and months in season during Covid.

It's momentous I reckon for the fact it's not just her dying, but also kind of the whole monarchy dying. The idea of a royal family is archaic and she was the last remnants of that IMO. She was the one that helped massively modernise the royal family and it was over her watch where the King or Queen became more and more irrelevant and more of just a figure head. She was the last of them really.

You just know when you and I agree on something it's a FACT.

Yeah they said on tele She had no issue with meeting people, stayed out of political affairs publicly, and never really did things to upset people.

Wishful thinking…funeral is probably 10-12 days away …it will be full on until then …then Charles’ inauguration in a few months on top of all the hooha of a new King.

That’s very true. But I more meant the general public, not the media coverage.
