I understand supply and demand etc I just think it's an immoral thing to do plus it is illegal. The difference between heroin and ticket scalping is that people actually get arrested for the former.

But in response to your second reply, you are saying someone has just offered to buy a ticket you didnt know you'd sell. This person has set the price themselves. I don't care that the person wanted to sell it because they couldn't go. That's fine. It's how she's taking advantage of others to get an extra $150. Fact is I know she's sooked about it herself because she got priced out of other concerts.
Believe it or not scalpels do get caught. And they deserve to too.

My point was I could go to something I sort of want to go to. Then heard I could sell for double say. I'd definitely consider it if I knew the person wanting the ticket. Is that immoral? I don't think so. I purchased something with the intent to go but then got an offer that was too good to refuse.

It's the same with anything we purchase really. You buy a pie from the servo for $4. Someone offers you $9 for it. What do you do

But that's not the point. Sure you can sell something for what people believe is the value. Someone else might think that pie is worth $9 compared to the $4 you paid for it. Fair enough.

Some of those Roar v Liverpool tickets were going at ridiculous prices. I could have sold that ticket for much, much more. But you could take that offer of $9 dollars for the pie and just say, well I only paid $4 dollars for it, you can have it for $4 dollars.

It's different when it's a business. Oh we only paid 22.5 million for Suarez why should we sell him for 75, we should just take the 22.5 million we paid for him. Well that's because we want to keep Suarez, it's not something we want to be rid of.

A spare ticket is not something you need. It's spare. Dont sell it for 4 times it's worth because someone is desperate to go.

In my case I wasnt gonna fleece a fellow supporter. Imagine the roles reversed and I tried desperately to get a ticket and missed out. Then a fellow Red like myself has a ticket for me but says he will only give it to me for $400 despite the ticket only being worth $100.

I'd be pretty annoyed. So I just sold it for what it is worth. I didnt lose any money and I made someone happy. It's just the right thing to do.

Why would they sell it for what they paid for it? They're not a charity service. If someone wants to give you more money for something you take it. Anyone on their high horse who says they'd just give a stranger a ticket for less than they could get for it is talking right out of their sphincter. Sporting events are slightly different. You have a common bond the team you support. But a concert no way

Also in my example I said it was a ticket intended to use myself. If I didn't get a double your money offer I'd happily go. But for making $100 on something that I'm not that phased on going to I don't see the harm in it at all. Someone obviously really wants to go that bad and is willing to pay twice the price for it. In my eyes it's a win win. They get what they want for a price they see fair and I make a buck on something I only kinda wanted to see

I've paid extra for tickets before.

But whenever selling things on, it's always at face value.

That's different if you want to go and it's your ticket and someone is offering you tons of money for it. That's fair enough.

I like Coldplay, ive seen them live three times. So a fourth time, it wouldnt bother me to give that ticket up and if someone was so keen to pay me double what it's worth id say fair enough.

But a football ticket, to a fellow Red who was unlucky not to get a ticket. Im not gonna charge him double. Ill sell the ticket for what I bought it for.

Football is probably a lot different than say concerts though.

Particularly if it's a spare ticket.

Im not selling my Liverpool ticket though. Absolutely buckleys haha.

Depends how much I did/didn't care about going. If I did want to go and someone I knew really wanted to go that bad that they offered me double I'd probably sell it to them for between that and face value

But if they want to go wouldn't they just keep it for themselves than make 0 out of it
Generally what happens is something else comes up.

If you buy a ticket for something without the intention of going/don't sell the ticket for face value, you're an absolute campaigner.

Oh yeah I agree. But wouldn't put all over face value sales in this category

Scalping is Aokay by me.

We are scalped at every single shop, restaurant, store, pub or station we go too.

Price of oil is under $30 at present yet we still pay near peak prices.

Retailers purchase products at price x and mark up 100-400%.

The difference is scalpers dont pay tax on the profit

Wow.

Actually shocked.

Wow.

Really?

If I want to go to something and someone compensates me for not going, is that not reasonable?

If I didn't care about going and sold for more than I paid, that's a bit different.

If I had a ticket for something, couldn't go, and you wanted to, there is no way I would charge you more than what I paid.

Which I don't disagree with you about.

Well that's what I was shocked about - selling it more to a mate/someone you know.

I assumed he meant to something he was really keen to go to.

Really? If I was keen to go to something and someone else wanted to give me more than I paid to compensate me for losing out on the experience that seems fair to me.

But then why would you sell. If you wanted to go, bought a ticket, then you would just go.

Exactly..

You wouldn't sell unless someone was paying you enough that you would rather the money than the experience.
