In my opinion, American wasnt such a bad album, i liked it and still give it a run through the stereo every now and then.

Last few albums have been pretty hit-and-miss - they've become increasingly reliant on clever lyrics to cover up the increasingly generic sound.

'Can't Repeat' on the greatest hits album is a dead ringer for 'The Kids Aren't Alright'.

That's very true. I tried playing the TKAA guitar rhythm along with Can't Repeat (through my amp), and they are so damn similar.

Still both great songs though.

Ignition and Smash were as good as it gets.

Ixnay had plenty of highlights, great albulm.

Americana a had a few moments, but really was the point where they changed forever...and i have never bean back.:(

Yeah i don't mind The Offspring, The Kids Aren't Alright is my favourite by a mile, awesome track and wierd video clip as well, quite like Spare Me The Details from the Greatest Hits.

I can't understand how people can say Americana and Conspiracy are rubbish, have the people saying this even listened to the damn albums or do you go by other peoples opinions and have only heard the top 40 singles from them? Both albums are filled with absoloute gems.

Americana has the likes of Staring At The Sun, No Brakes, The Kids Aren't Alright and to a lesser extent She's Got Issues.

Conspiracy especially has a ton of top songs on it, Million Miles Away, Want You Bad, Dammit, I Changed, Vultures, Special Delivery are all great and then there's the lesser songs that are still damn good such as Conspiracy Of One and One Fine Day, and I've almost named the whole album there.

Splinter I'll admit wasn't the strongest effort, but it also has some great songs on it like Lightning Rod, Can't Get My Head Around You, The Noose and Race Against My Self.

I seriously doubt the people saying that anything after Ixnay is crap have even listened to anything else other than Pretty Fly and Origional Prankster.

Doubt not, ye doubter...songs that actually grabbed me from the later albums:

Americana: The Kids Aren't Alright, Americana
Conspiracy: Special Delivery
Splinter: Neocon, The Noose, Hit That

Most of the 'funny' songs (Pretty Fly, Feelings, Spare Me The Details, etc) lose their impact before long, and the rest of the material is just uninteresting past the first couple of listens.

Very true. If you look past poppy-crap on those albums, there are some absolutely amazing songs. Most people were put off by those songs and didn't listen to the full albums. At least half of the Offspring's best songs came after ixnay.

Please tell me you're not including their self-titled album in the 'rubbish' catgeory...

I meant to say the rest afterwards is rubbish, my mistake. 'The Offspring' isn't a bad album, but I don't think they hit their strides until 'Ignition' ... L.A.P.D is a good song though...

hope the clears that up!

Don't worry I've listened to them plenty. Unfortunately for me, none of those post Ixnay songs would be in my top 20 offspring songs, besides maybe 'The Kids Aren't Alright', thats a good song.. to me they just lost it, so yeah compared to their previous albums they stack up badly. "Rubbish" is probably a tad harsh, as it still is comparably better than a lot of music out there, but pales in comparison to earlier stuff. I guess I'm more of an older fan. To me stuff like "Pretty fly", "Original Prankster", "Hit That", "Spare me the details", "why cant you get a job" are pure sugar coated pop abominations and destroy any of the old Offspring feel and ruin what the albums possibly could have been. Thats just my opinion of them anyway.

I always thought it was a deadset rip-off of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" by The Beatles (which I think was also used as the theme for Fat Cat... or maybe Here's Humphrey - not sure which). Musically, it sounds very similar to me.

You're spot on with the Obladi comparison. John Williamson sang this song on one of Andrew Denton's Musical Challenges and at the end he switches to the lyrics of Obladi without changing the chords.

Just ignore the crap stuff, this is the second disk of my Offspring Greatest Hits (Post Ixnay).

The Noose
Race Against Myself
Defy You
Never Gonna Find Me
Staring At The Sun
Have You Ever
Come Out Swinging
Million Miles Away
Dammit I Changed Again
Living In Chaos
End Of The Line
The Kids Aren't Alright
(Can't Get My) Head Around You
Vultures
Can't Repeat

All great songs, all after Ixnay.
