If there are current Premier League players who are allergic to the base components of vaccines then that's pretty worrying as that would mean they're potentially unvaccinated against a lot of pretty basic viruses out there and probably shouldn't becoming into close contact with other people anyway.

Also false. As drd23 pointed out, the Covid-19 vaccines contain Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) or Polysorbate 80, that have been proposed as causes of the anaphylactic reactions. These new vaccines require the mRNA to be coated with a stabilizing molecule of polyethylene glycol or equivalent. Previous vaccines such as MMR do not use such technology so do not have the same risk of anaphylactic reactions.

It's nonsense to suggest that footballers not vaccinated against Covd are unvaccinated against other viruses so should not be coming into close contact with other people.

How many players have this issue out of curiosity? Or is everyone bashing this point based on hypotheticals?

That's false. messenger RNA vaccines such as the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine don't contain virus components. They work by instructing our cells to produce virus like molecules, which in turn triggers an immune response to those molecules.

Really? Everything I've seen suggest it contains virus components.

Barca have to get their wage bill under a certain amount before they can register players. ATM Messi can play for nothing and they'll still be over that amount so he couldn't be registered.

FWIW I'm not sure that Messi actually wants to stay at Barca, and Barca actually wants to keep him. But it's good to have a villain to blame it on, and La Liga and Javier Tebas are pretty good villains.

While I agree he shouldn't have to play for free, if he's happy to leave, no need to front up to a press conference and cry about leaving.

didnt realise it was at that level, ******* hell.

penny for kun's thoughts

I still struggle to understand how they plan to get under the cap, and if they do plan to get under the cap and he did genuinely want to stay, why they couldn't have worked something out.

i reckon they presumed that la liga would change the rules for them due to how much attention/revenue messi brings to spanish football. shit out of luck i guess.

how they get under the cap, no idea. their loss is projected to be double our biggest ever loss. it might take years, especially if other players dont take paycuts/get moved on

I get that La Liga needed to curb wages but couldn't they have gradually introduced a cap rather than going bang and dropping it on clubs all at once?

How much notice did La Liga clubs have to prepare for this?

I would strongly support a wage cap being introduced into the PL but only in a gradual manner.

they've only had 8 years

they've only had 8 years

Lol in that case well it's ridiculous that Barca have continued to run up huge wage bills. Is this the first year it's been introduced? No gradual introduction of a wage cap?

The system has been around for ages (as Magma said) and it allowed Barca to spend quite a lot for most of the time it has been around. But as its based on revenues, and revenues have been significantly hit because of the pandemic, it has resulted in lower allowed expenditures by all La Liga clubs (you can see in the below chart the projected wage numbers for Barca and RM in 2021)

While the pandemic restricting match-day revenues is a big part of why the cap is limiting them so much, its more their debts that are affecting - and unlike RM and Atletico Madrid, that debt isn't long term debt associated with stadium construction/refurbishment. They've been taking out loans periodically to pay wages in the last two years, had to get a non-standard loan to pay Griezmann's release clause etc. The last regime led by Bartomeu allowed wages to spiral - and that's the major reason why they are ****ed now and why Messi was pushing to leave last year and why he has to leave now

Is there a pandemic allowance?
