So is in this alternate reality you don’t sell Kane but still spend all the money earned on new players? Not sure the logic holds up.

Levy wouldn't have spent anywhere near as much without the Harry Kane money coming in which being realistic was inevitable with no new contract being signed. He'd also be free to leave this summer for nothing.


Selling Kane has improved Spurs immeasurably. Levy played it perfectly unlike the Bale schemozzle.

We bought the cheap option goalkeeper anyway. The other big signings were Maddison and van de Ven who have both missed half the season and Johnson who has barely got going. If we kept Kane we don't buy Johnson and sell others like Lo Celso and Gil if we need to partially fund the other transfers

The concern if we kept kane wasn't about if we'd have signed maddison or vdv since they joined as needs prior to his sale. Its not about the signings we wouldn't have made in Werner and Johnson.

It's whether Kane could do the pressing from the front or how we'd compensate to fit him in. Or would kane be the missing ingredient for us to go hard for 60 mins and blow sides away. Ange is the first manager I can remember us having to not being afraid to sub key players in key moments once they're gassed. He has done it to Son and maddison quite a bit already

In hindsight probably little risk he wouldn't have re-signed in November or December with results flying. It's always worth risking losing a player free if the price you get isn't enough. Once Bayern met the 100m it made sense to sell, far to big a gamble to take on Angeball getting the results it has and knocking back 100m
