The A-League goes about things the wrong way.

Clubs should be aiming for good players in second divisions/low European leagues. - Berisha, Janko etc

It goes about things the wrong way? But you just listed players that have or still do play in the league..

No, but I mean - in terms of players they try and sign.

The best players have been ones like I have mentioned, no 'big name' has really set the league alight - ADP an exception.

Look how bloody good Janko was - would guess he was relatively unknown before joining and he a broke scoring record didn't he?

Berisha - div 2 in Germany wasn't it? Broich? Hernandez, Fornaroli - players like that should be targeted.

The Fox Sports article had Iniesta and Robben in there, **** off. (Not that I take their opinions seriously)

Guys like Toni, RVP, Totti, Klose and Gerrard should be pursued

Can't see RvP coming here, won't be able to afford him.

Reckon Klose would finish in Germany.

Toni is a possibility, Totti could make big bucks in the States, and I don't see why Gerrard wouldn't want to continue the in the US either, but that's just me.

You don't think players like that would be successful and high profile enough to draw crowds?

Melbourne City brought in Koren and he was woeful. It goes both ways.

Ono, ADP, etc. have all been 'names' who were successes. Some are hits some are misses but I don't think 'names' are all misses and unknown lesser stars have all been his.

You don't think RVP would look at the money he's made in Turkey, look at the lifestyle in Australia, and think he could afford a year or two down here on a reduced salary for an enjoyable lifestyle?

He probably could, but majority of footballers are greedy. See: Tim Cahill.

Short summer season in a pretty nice part of the world. Not all these guys would get to a good US city.

Would RVP rather be in Colorado or Sydney?

If he cared that much about football down here he'd come back and play here and not chase money in China in which I am sure is an inferior league/place to live.

He couldn't sign for an A-League club FFS.

His contract in China runs out in 4 months which is when the A-League window opens.

That's a very simplistic way of looking at it. He obviously has problems with how the FFA is run or wants his own club

Also, like Schwarzer, doesn't want to tarnish his reputaiton like Kewell and Aloisi did.

But Cruyff hates the guy for whatever reason so won't listen to logic.

After 10+ years on more than a mill it's not unreasonable for people to expect a bit better

Players are a long time retired.

Cahill could have likely gone to bigger Chinese clubs but went to a small club no one had heard of. This is after being one of the first to go to the MLS and then to China in the first place. Doesn't strike me as 'greedy' but an enjoyment of being a pioneer and being a part of starting something new.

Wouldn't shock me if he was the marquee of a new South Sydney team.

A long time retired after earning 8-15m pounds should be more than fine if they aren't stupid.

Nothing wrong with maximising what you earn and being a bit greedy. But for guys who've already been at the top for a long time surely lifestyle outweighs money at some point
