The Only Player We Should Target..........

As we all know teams with large amounts of recycled players become s__t, do we all agree? So we should grow are own talent and not continue to recycle players. I've changed my mind on a couple things after reading everything everyones posted. We DONT need cousins unless we trade couglan, end of story. Having both of these players will slow the development of our youngsters as we already have sugar too. So we either trade coggs and get cousins or not at all. The same applies for prismal who is a half rate player benefiting from good players around him, and WE DONT NEED HIM, his just a recycled player. Why would we want a player who cant make a current premiership team to make our one???

On the other hand the only player we should realisticaly target is Warnock. Why? because we are ranked 16th for hitouts in the comp and we are in most need of a ruckman. Putt, and Gourdis are still too raw and we will need Gourdis for a KPP role either back or forward. Patto wont make it as a ruckman either, too short.

p.s. despite this tackling talk from Wallace earlier in the year, WE ARE STILL RANKED 16th FOR THAT TOO. We need to tackle more AND get an up and coming ruckman.

The amount of hit outs that go to an advantage is stunningly low. Even then, a high amount of clearances is often won by losing side. What we need to do is put togehter a decent competitive list, not focus on improving statistical defiencies

Just because you have Cousins and Coughlin doesnt mean you have to play them both. Chances are Coughlin wont be what he was anyway.

How does having Cotchin and Tambling etc playing alongside a champion slow their development?

Cousins will cost next to nothing and will have far more effect into both immediate results and development of younger players than most of our older group could.

You do need some experienced players on your list and most of ours are not able to lead by example when games are on the line. This is something cousins can provide without a doubt.

a decent ruckman and a decent back up make a good team.. if you look at the premiers over the years they have had two good ruckmens...

Ask Collingwood what they think of ruckman... if Collingwood had a ruckman in the preliminary final, we'd be talking about them as the reigning premiers. They immediately went and shelled out pick 14 for Cameron Wood.

You want to drop past Morabbin and see what St.Kilda think of ruckman. Have been smashed every year because Cornflakes never rated the big fella's.

Why do you think Sydney overpaid for Everitt, Jolly, etc?

Why do you think that we went hard after Simmonds and gave him a 5 year deal?

Why do you think Kruezer went number one last year? Probably wasnt the best player, but will ultimately prove to be a sound decision.

A ruckman is the most overpriced commodity in the game, but without them, you dont win premierships. Every year, every club looks at trading for a ruckman - Meesan, Moran, Wood, King, Gardiner - and this year, there'll be loads more looking for one.

Well the famous Bombers side of 2000 had bloody John Barnes and Alessio.

Hawthorn had Paul Dear and Greg Dear, they were not the dominant ruckmen of their era, but the Hawthorn side certainly was.

Maybe if you have really really good team then Ruckmen are redundant? Maybe there's no hard and fast rule...

Agree with the Sandilands analogy. Plenty of hitouts but no midfield to take advantage. Cox is so mobile he's like an extra midfielder. We need another big body to help Simmonds and Patto but not at the expense of a high draft pick. Warnock will become an auction - that means he will probably be way overpriced.

Agree about Barnes, but a lot of Bombers think he was good for them. Sheedy loved him

Greg Dear wasnt a star ruckman, but we was fantastic for the Hawks. And he was also great for us in 95

Forget the Freo comparison, look at our own record in recent years when our best ruckman is on the park more often than he isn't.

2006 - Simmonds plays 21 games was in concideration for the AA team and we finished 9th.

2007 - Simmonds plays 10 games and we finished 16th with 3.5 wins.

2008 - Simmonds has played every game (IIRC) and we currently have 5.5 wins and sit 12th.

If we had better support behind Simmo we could have possibly won a couple of extra games and been in the 8. Not having a shot at Patto because the kid gives his all every week, but he is not a great foil for Simmo because they play the same style, competitive in the middle but their real value is around the ground. What we need is a big bodied ruckman who can plonk themselves in the D50 and fill space in front of the oppositions forwards, much like what happens to us.
