Let's just pray the book isn't released until after Grand Final day, no matter what's in it, at some point in the book Mick will have to talk about the whole coaching situation, and if the book is released pre GF it will be front page news, which we do not need as a distraction.

I might read the book more so for the fact that David Buttifant has co written it, he's a far more interesting character then Mick to me.

If Mick Malthouse is bringing a book out I will be buying it the day it comes out. God, people like Brad Johnson and Barry Hall are releasing books all the time. There isn't anything in football the guy hasn't seen, I can't imagine a more interesting football story than his. I love listening to Mick speak, and I'm sure he has a lot of amazing stories to tell.

Am I the only one that thought the OP was having a dig @ David Schwartz when they initially opened this thread?

I thought it was a rather creative one too lol...

I'll be buying it. Couldn't think of anything more interesting to be honest. Mick is a helluva character and if you can't see or appreciate that then it's your loss.

Good on them!

Surprised people think Mick is boring? I can't think of anyone in the AFL who is remotely like him personality wise and that in itself makes him interesting in my view. Even my ex who didn't really like AFL would almost always watch Mick's post match interviews, just because she thought it was hilarious how he would cut people down (with or without words) for asking stupid questions.

Agreed Hagla, far from boring IMO.

Can see why lots of people wouldn't be interesting in a MM book though, he is a very polarising character.

I'll definitely get this one, it's so much more than just about MM, would be fascinating.

Buttifant's story will also make for a very interesting one.

His family tragedies and the trust Mick puts in him - among other things - will make it a very interesting read.

At first I had reservations about this book, wondering how good it would be.

But after reading the two extracts in the Herald Sun this morning, I'll be getting this one for sure.:thumbsu:

I KNEW my parents were old and frail and yet when they died it still came as a shock. My father had cancer. We were told it was critical and that it would take his life. The speed at which that happened, though, took me by surprise.
He passed away on August 13, 2007 - a Monday. Collingwood was playing on the Friday - my birthday, August 17 - against Melbourne at the MCG.

From David Buttifant;

The group that I was leading waited at the summit while the other groups began descending. Despite the freezing conditions and growing agitation, we gathered and waited, hoping that Mick would get Eddie to the top. After 30 minutes, the players were beginning to express their desire to descend as they felt he was not going to make it.
Paul and I encouraged them to wait a bit longer because we knew that if anyone could get Eddie up to the summit, Mick Dugina could.
After approximately 40 minutes, I thought I could see two small, dark figures ascending up the track through the snow. A few minutes later the rest of the group noticed them and realised Eddie was actually going to make it.
As he was approaching the boys began to call out encouragement to Ed, spurring him on.
Finally the pair reached the top. Eddie was hugging everyone and giving high fives. He was elated with his accomplishment and the boys shared his happiness. After 10 minutes or so we began the descent.

Very interesting.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

so a bump, to ask if it is worth buying? for my dad for his birthday, have already bought him every other collingwood book
It really depends how much he likes Malthouse and/or loves all things Collingwood.
It's a good book, but being a keen supporter helps.
Not the best footy book I've bought but streets ahead of the worst.
