Team next Year???

Did this quickly so tell me if I left any1 out or in wrong possies.
FB: Tappy Frawley Garland

CHB: Blease Rivers Grimes

Mid: Trengove Gysberts Jones

Ruck: Jamar Moloney Sylvia

CHF: Davey Watts Petterd

FF: Green Clark Jurrah

I/C: McKenzie Morton Martin Bail

All we need now is a good small forward and maybe another mid (which we will fill with Viney and most likely 1 of our other 2 first rounders next year).

Team needs more Howe.

Inevitably, there will be a barrage of supporters with a barrage of ideas throughout the off season for team, tactics etc. Stick 'em all in here.

For me:

Bartram-Frawley-Garland

Grimes-Rivers-Strauss

McKenzie-Moloney-Blease

Jurrah-Watts-Sylvia

Davey-Clark-Green

Jamar-Trengove-Jones

Martin-Tapscott-Bail/Petterd-?

?=Whether we want a Cook/Fitzpatrick type there or a Bennell/Nicholson there.

For mine:

B: Tapscott - Frawley - Garland
HB: Grimes - Rivers - Blease
C: Bail - Moloney - Davey
HF: Howe - Watts - Sylvia
F: Petterd - Clark - Jurrah
Fol: Jamar - Trengove - Jones
Int: Martin - McKenzie - Gysberts
Sub: Strauss

Thereabouts:
Backline: Bennell, Bartram, Nicholson, Joel Macdonald
Midfield: Evans, Morton
Fowards: Green, Wonna

Had to leave Green out - based on 2011 he is simply far too one-dimensional compared to the other forwards in competition with him for spots. Tough, tough call.

Silly call, second highest goal scorer gets a game, and that was a bad year for him... jeez some people over react.

Also think the thread label melbourne 2012 or whatever is doing this and discussing players ect. may i suggest a mereg?

Can we make a rule that any team without Howe be considered a joke?

Of course you would say that sam.

for mine:

hi guys,

hers is my ideal 2012 Demons side (Injuries permitting) with explanations -

Backline

Jack Grimes - walk up start to our back 6, if he can stay on the park we will be that much better

James Frawley - No explanation required

Colin Garland - Can play on talls or smalls, as well as provide great rebound... the perfect defender.

Half Backs

Jared Rivers - will go about his business as usual

Stefan Martin - I believe this move will be one that catapults our backline to elite status. Will still pinch hit in the ruck of course.

Sam Blease
- electrifying pace and ball carrying ability will be invaluble off half back

Centres

Jordan Gysberts - entering his 3rd season, if he can get his body right he will take the AFL by storm.

Jack Trengove - expecting a big leap forward from the up and coming superstar

Colin Sylvia
- one of our most important players, and most damaging

Half forwards

Jeremy Howe - impressed as a rookie, a few more kilos and hes going to be very hard to beat one-on-one

Jack Watts - no player on the list excites me more in 2012

Ricky Petterd - arguably our most underrated player, and the best is yet to come

Forwards

Liam Jurrah - what odds he kicks a bag of 10 next season?

Mitch Clark - a 200 cm, 100 kg full forward who will give the forward line a completely different dynamic

Austin Woneamirri - almost the forgotten man, but for me hes the clear choice as crumbing forward

Rucks

Mark Jamar - will be keen to take back his AA ruck spot. My early tip for the Bluey

Brent Moloney - will he be the skipper?

Jordie McKenzie - top 5 most important player, and an absolute genius at stoppages

Bench

Brad Green
- should be in for a nice bounce-back year

Aaron Davey - his skills are going to be invaluable for us in our rise up the ladder

Nathan Jones - quietly gets the job done every week

Luke Tapscott - our Paul Chapman? Lets hope so.

Emergencies (aka 3 unlucky guys)

Cale Morton - depending on what the new coaching staff are capable of doing with him, Cale may become first picked very week and a star. But right now hes on the fringe.

Neville Jetta - he will see plenty of senior action in 2012 and beyone

Rohan Bail - love this kid, and he could be a starting 18 player every week as long as hes fit

Will get their chances

Jamie Bennell, Tom McDonald, Max Gawn, James Strauss, Lucas Cook, Joel MacDonald

On the outer

Clint Bartram, Lynden Dunn, Jake Spencer,

Here we go.

Tapscott Frawley Martin
Grimes Rivers Blease
Jones Mckenzie Gysberts
Petterd Watts Sylvia
Jurrah Clarke Green
Jamar Moloney Trengove
Interchange: Garland, Howe, Davey, Bail

Emg: Evans, Nicholson, Dunn

Hopefully Morton stays out of the side for as long as possible.
Team looks quite solid
Serious depth in the midfield region in my opinion
Forward line is getting me pumped!

Any poster who wants Morton to 'stay out of the side for as long as possible' is a joke. Goes against everything that the positivisity of our post-season has shown.

i have to say im baffled that Bartram is in anyones best 22.

His footkills are deplorable and he is a liability with the footy.

Silly call, second highest goal scorer gets a game, and that was a bad year for him... jeez some people over react.

Also think the thread label melbourne 2012 or whatever is doing this and discussing players ect. may i suggest a mereg?

The issue for me is how one-dimensional he was still. It's a bloody rough call, I know, but well...it's between him, Howe and Petterd, and well yeah, tough call. I made it the controversial way.

HB: Grimes-Rivers-Blease

HF: Sylvia-Watts-Petterd
FF: Jurrah-Clark-Green
RM: Jamar-Moloney-Mckenzie
INT: Martin-Howe-Davey-Bail/Bennell

I personally don't think that Bartram has a role to play in this team. Mckenzie is by far our no.1 tagger and Bail/Bennell can also play defensize roles. Bartram's disposal is horrendous and his approach to the footy is ultimately overrated.

I tried and tried and tried to fit Morton into that team. I remember that game last year against Sydney where he tagged Goodes completely out of the game and racked up 20+ possessions.
Looking at his frame:
- he could play third tall in our defence. However, Garland is still my preferred option.
- he could play third tall in our forward line. However, he would be fighting against the likes of Petterd/Howe/Green/Jurrah/Dunn/Bate for a game.
Hopefully Craig, Misson and Neeld can get the best out of him.

Wonna. Will he finally get his body right? Could he be the small forward that we are all rambling on about? Lets hope so.

Pretty good side, but hoping some guys step it up a notch over the preseason, like Martin did last year not many of us would of had him in our best 22. The dees were grooming Bail as a run with player, he can play bartram's role and has better skills. Bit harsh on questioning Bartram's approach on the footy, i think one thing we all could agree on is his attack on the footy is second to none and i would assume with his limited ability he would be one of the hardest workers at the club.

And in regards to Morton's effort on Goodes in the round 17 game in 2010, Goodes had 26 touches 7 marks and kick 4 goals 2 and i remember Goodes towelled him up at every contest. Not to say Morton couldn't have a good and full preseason and force his way back into the side.

C: Petterd-Trengove-Gysberts
HF: Sylvia-Watts-Green
FF: Jurrah-Clark-Davey
RM: Jamar-Moloney-Jones
INT: Martin-Bail-McKenzie-Bate

This side is based on the assumption that under Neeld we'll have a greater midfield rotation. We have an abundance of mid-sized lead up forwards, so a few players need to redefine their roles. The likes of Petterd and Bate need to rotate through the wings or onball as they've done at Casey. Unfortunately for Howe, he misses out. Until Morton and Bennell improve their attack on the ball, they miss out.

B: Grimes - Frawley - Garland
HB: Blease - Rivers - Jones
C: Sylvia - Gysberts - Trengove
HF: Howe - Watts - Petterd
FF: Davey - Clark - Jurrah
R: Jamar - Moloney - McKenzie
Int: Martin - Green - Bail
S: Tapscott

E: Bennell/Strauss - Dunn - Evans

My reasoning is thus - Grimes/Bail/Blease can rotate through the defense and midfield, with Bail playing the occasional tagging role. Frawley/Garland/Rivers = no brainers. I think Jones does his best work in the back line. Martin with the ability to play back more often with Clark in the goal square. Back up Backs - Bennell, Strauss, Nicholson, McDonald, Davis, Macdonald.

M(a)cDonald and Davis are good depth, being groomed for when Rivers moves on I would think - can be brought in to deal with three big guys (Rivers more suited to third man up). Bennell useful as he can swing forward and in the midfield. Strauss and Nicholson direct replacements for Grimes/Blease/Bail.

Midfield wise - Our midfield is very attacking - but I do see McKenzie and Gysberts playing defensively. I expect high rotation with the midfield this year, with Sylvia, Trenners, Petterd, Howe, Davey and Green (to a lesser extent) all rotating through the midfield and forward line. Clark and Jurrah to hopefully become a devastating double act - Jurrah is now fourth/fifth tall with Clark/Watts/Howe/Petterd being in the forward line at any one time. Out forward line looks so much better with Clark there. Martin also can rest in the f/l, leaving Jamar to pretty much stay in the centre square, roaming across the wing. (I'm thinking, if Martin controls back line, Jamar middle of the ground and Clark fwd line - they could conserve alot of energy :p) Bail and Jones can also run through the centre - McKenzie can go back for Blease/Grimes etc.

Back up mids - Evans, Nicholson, Morton, Bartram (Bennell/Jetta at a pinch, if he gains weight). It just occured to me that Viney will be a much needed addition to our side. Anyway - Evans and Nicholson both showed alot this year. Morton can come in as an outside winger/defender. I'd prefer not to use Bartram, but he can replace McKenzie/Bail. Bennell/Jetta need to bulk up, but I'd like to see them around abouts in the midfield)

Fwd - I've already discussed this, but it looks so potent...I'm excited.

Back up Fwds - Wonna, Jetta, Lawrence, McDonald, Dunn, Bate, Bennell, Cook, Fitz

Wonna and Lawrence pure crumbers. Jetta and Bennell to rotate through midfield/defense. Cook, Fitz and McDonald = back up talls (but with Clark/Martin/Watts, I don't think they'll be getting a game (mc up fwd, that is). Dunn and Bate = pure depth. I prefer Dunn > Bate because he has a better sense of occasion.

Back up Ruck - Gawn. Capable at AFL level - ready replacement for Jamar.

SUB - Tapscott. Toughest decision but I think it works. Is an impact player - can play back, mid or forward CAPABLY. Can play tall or short in both the back and forward lines - can break a game apart. I think he could become a sub specialist.

B: Tapscott-Frawley-Garland
HB: Grimes-Rivers-Blease/Bennell
C: Trengove-Jones-Gysberts
HF: Sylvia-Watts-Petterd
FF: Jurrah-Clark-Howe
RM: Jamar-Moloney-Mckenzie

PRE season dependant
Bennel
Wonna
Morton
Jetta

All 4 could be best 22 if they reach their potential

Will get a game due to our lack of seniors- Green, Davey
