We've all been in the dumps this week and given our fair share of whacks to the players, coaches, and administration. Time to rally around the club as we get ready to face our former captain and that meaningless franchise GWS. Add any positive thoughts you like. No negative Nancies allowed. I'll kick it off:

  • Several players have had career best games this year - JJ, Stringer, Bontempelli, Wallis, Dickson, Jong and even the veteran Picken!
  • Honeychurch got a rising star!
  • Our coach has given us some flair and an attacking gameplan
  • Tom Boyd has played all 8 games and kicked 10 goals already.
  • We played a pre-season game at whitten oval!
  • Our reserves just won by 146 points and our young guys all look like they can play!
over to you.

And don't forget to get to the game this week!

I get to see us play this year!

JJ is so exciting to watch!

Absolutely pantsing Adelaide for 3 quarters!

Sydney game, especially the last five minutes and the celebration gives me goosebumps still!

The club videos on the captain and coach!

The list goes on this year, yes we've had some bad moments lately but the good definitely outweighs the bad so far this year!

- Tom Boyd is, at the very least, meeting the expectations of Dogs fans.
- Honeychurch has stepped up after our other little pest (Hrovat) had an interrupted start to the year.
- Lukas Webb looks awesome.
- The Bont has shown signs of being the most dominant player in the competition, despite his average form of late (he'll be right).
- Picken has gone to another level.

Felt so awful after Libba went down. Now I'm just excited at the thought of adding him to this team.

I thought we were riding into a season full of absolute heartache from round 1 given the acrimonious offseason we endured. Griff's petulant display took me to a dark place and I was prepared for another season of TAC watching to get any joy as a spectator. These first few games restored my pride in our club and some of my love of going to the footy at AFL level.

I went with a mate and his 6 year old son for his first game of footy this year and he stood on his seat and screamed "Go Dogs" umpteen times at the top of his lungs (for a quarter of footy before he was knackered and went home) v the hated saints. He had his first boo at Sooky reiwaldt. The atmosphere, the sheer joy of the crowd watching us tear the saints a new one (albeit for half a game but Whatevs) and the exuberance of a childs first game was awesome.

I lay on my back in bed sick as a malley duck and kicked my feet in the air and squirmed like a kid all the way through the final, agonising, glorious quarter of the Swans game listening to the radio in the dark. I clenched my fists with soul filling joy when we won, filled with so much happiness for a club and its players that had held on and ridden the darkness far more than I.

We've seen signs from Big Bad Boyd we had no right to expect this early. We've seen an uninjured Jong punch massively above his weight and experience at the highest level. Wallis is finding that TAC form can indeed translate to AFL level albeit it takes massive amounts of hard work and dedication and he's thriving and clearly loving it. Wood, JJ, the signs from Talia, Boyd in the backline working so well.....

And Murph. My man crush on Murph has reached embarrassing levels. Massively excited when I see a second video has come out diarising his journey from spiritual leader to this strong, determined General. Murph has grown into this leader determined to lead young charges straight down the enemies throat without fear or favour.

To sum it up, and in honour of both the glorious wild ride of a first 6 rounds and of our Poet-General Bob Murphy: some Tennyson.

"When can their glory fade
O, the wild charge they made
All the world wondered.
Honor the charge they made
Honor the light brigade
Noble six hundred"

This young team may or may not have the energy to keep this wide ride going into the back end of the year; but the charge to date has been exhilarating...

We have a skipper playing almost career best footy who is deeply connected to our club and represents us with passion and is universally loved across the AFL.
We're keeping Woody on the park and he's playing great footy
Tory Dickson kicked 7.
Michael Talia has been given the opportunities he was denied last year.

Pies are cheaper at the footy - or so they claim.
Our membership is still small enough that I can sit anywhere I like at Etihad.
The trains from Southern Cross are a bit better scheduled than previous years but not much.
I predicted bottom 3 or 4 for us this year and we haven't got there yet. etc etc

With some seriousness: the Footscray VFL team are great to watch with several great young prospects; Bev is a well-respected everyman coach who could bring sustained success; there is more hope and feel-good vibes around the club than I've seen for some time; we should expect more climbs than falls on the rollercoaster over the next couple of seasons and beyond.

The feeling when the final siren went for the Sydney game is the best moment of the year so far. I remember Wood kicking that goal and thinking, "We're good enough to win this." And sure enough, we did. My dad and I both jumped up, hugging and high-fiving. My house was absolute pandemonium. It was pure euphoria.

When we tied the game up against Freo, I realized something. Not only will this team make the finals this year, they'll win one. Even with the last 3 games, I still stand by that prediction. I see something in this team that I've never seen in the Dogs before in my 15 years of watching them actively. It's everything we were under Eade and more.

When I watch Bonti, I realize that I have never seen a Dogs player with more potential. He WILL be the most dominant player in the competition, and his potential is such that he could go down as one of the all-time great footballers. He's the perfect specimen for the modern game.

Murphy as captain is the perfect fit, especially in this time. He leads the club with everything he has. Everyone at the club and every supporter has rallied behind him without a second thought.

When that fateful day in the offseason came with Macca gone and Griff holding a gun to our head, I was near catatonic. Watching PG's press conference, I was laying on the floor of my lounge room in shock. I honestly thought that was the beginning of the end for the club. To see how we've turned it around (Starting with throwing an absolute haymaker at GWS and snaring Boyd) fills me with an immense pride in the club and what we stand for.

Footy is a game of swings and roundabouts, but that's what makes it beautiful. This team has an exciting future. They're driven by belief, which can make a team of men into a team of unshakeable, unbreakable warriors. That "never say die" attitude is invaluable in footy.

Pies are cheaper at the footy - or so they claim.

Only at Etihad on Sundays ($3), the ones left over from Friday and Saturday judging by how hard the crust was.

- We have beaten West Coast, Adelaide, Richmond and
Sydney all teams expected to make the top eight.:)

- At our best our game style is attractive and very
hard to counter.:)

- Our new coach brings the best out of the group and
has great buy in and belief.:)

- We are a young group and efforts like the Sydney
game will cost you for the next month at least if
not longer.

- Jordan Roughead has shown more than glimpses that he is the answer to our ruck woes, now to find a suitable replacement for the main KPD role, hello Jake Carlisle.

- Mitch Wallis is a very important part of our midfield. Will win a BnF despite Libba, Stringer, Bont etc being his main challenges

- Easton Wood is a gun

- Jake Carlisle will be at the WB in 2016
