At the risk of being told off for being negative, the new decade doesn't start til 2021...

I know we’ve been through this, but I can’t remember the outcome. To me, 1/1/0000 was the beginning of the AD date system. This would mean that the 00 years are the beginning of each decade.

This isn't true. A decade is any period of 10 years.

The 2010s as a decade, encompassing the years 2010-2019, ends this year. However, the 2nd decade of the 21st century, ends in 2020, noting there was no year 0.

Most people, when referring to a decade, use the first definition and not the second. Both are correct, as is any other period spanning 10 years
