When done well the rousing pre game sing song can be an epic thing - there are examples of it across the world, probably culminating in the great you'll never walk alone which follows Liverpool around the globe (amongst others) and pretty much defines them as a club now.
Port have chosen pretty well (for all the piss we take) using never tear us apart to good effect - I recall Melbourne victory using stand by me...
anyhow, its a fine fine line, it can come off as contrived and poxy if its the wrong song or everybody doesn't take to it.
I hear Collingwood has just purchased the rights to nothing else matters by Metallica.... could go either way that one..
So anyway, what makes a good song?
firstly it needs to have a sing along cadence - something that is slow enough for everyone to sing along to and rouse the troops... it needs to have some kind of rousing peak that stands the hairs back on the neck... but it also needs to have some kind of sentiment in the lyrics that relates -something relating to mateship or team or never giving up or whatever it may be.
or it needs a hook, like the woohoo! in blurs song 2, or the drivng hook of seven naton army by white stripes...
with that being said - I do get jealous of the YNWA Liverpool have, and other clubs who have 'their' song
and I wouldn't be against us trying it, but it has to be right.
Could you think of any good suggestions for a song that matches us, is sing along and could work?
