Which current NM players will play in a Final for NM?

I suppose none of us can really answer it. It's more an educated guess, but I honestly have NFI.

If I had to guess, I'd go with the following (with the sheer HOPE we become a decent team within the next decade):

McKercher
Wardlaw
Sheezel
Hardeman
O'Sullivan
P Curtis
Goater

But in saying that, I actually wouldn't be surprised (but I would be shattered) if no current NM player played in a final for NM.

Might re-visit this thread in a decade.

if we lose xerri, we’re no chance at a final

Here's my number one question I can't answer.

How could any club go a decade without recruiting a single player from another club who makes the team better, and/or personally improves? Higgins and Waite in 2015 would have to be the last.

OK, we haven't been a destination club in that time, but you'd think the law of averages would say that for no particular reason someone would come to the club and by chance pull his finger out and make something more of his career. Or that we'd even accidentally spot a diamond in the rough.

Instead we have Anderson, Ray, Hrovat, Williams, Hartung, Hall, Pittard, Polec, Tyson, Campbell, Walker, Bonar, Corr, Menadue, Stephenson, Young, Bosenavulagi, Coleman-Jones, Greenwood, Logue, Shiels, Howe, Tucker, Fisher, Stephens, Nyuon, Teakle, Daniel, Darling and Parker.

Not one kicked on and made a decent AFL career for himself and/or significantly improved the team in any way after coming to North. Not one!

HOW THE HOLY F*$K DOES THAT HAPPEN!?!?!?

Bit unfair to have stephens on that list on current form.

Is it? He's improved a lot from last year but he's hardly shooting the lights out. Hardly making the competition sit up and take notice. He's leapt the very low bar of being a complete cat, to being unquestionably worthy of earning a place in the second worst team in the competition.

Good on him, but earning a game and being alright was the absolute minimum expectation we had when we traded for him.

You asked the question, does he make us a better side? The answer is yes. Clearly our best winger this year. I would also argue that Parker has given leadership and Darling helped in the forward line, but that's less clear cut.

Here's another unanswerable question.

You see that the onfield leadership this year is better than last year? OK. I don't see it. I see a team who still gives up multiple goals too easily, who don't know how to win from winnable positions, who lack belief, who don't stick to structures, who collapse when games go against them. Probably tough to lay all that at Luke Parker's feet - his own form is good - but if onfield leadership is what he was brought in for, it hasn't revealed itself yet.

Darling has helped the forward line? OK. Larkey is horribly out of form and Darling hasn't exactly taken up the slack. But as the 3rd forward instead of 2nd, Zurhaar is on track for a very strong year.

Is Dylan Stephens current form on the wing better than Bailey Scott's 2022-23 podium B&Fs? Maybe/maybe not? But that's probably a comment on Scott's form than Stephens'.

You're the one that's set the low bar. Your metric was, 'have they improved the team.' And maybe your are forgetting just how abjectly shit we were last year, at this point in the season we were no wins and a percentage of 55.

On Dyl, your arguement comparing to previous (good) Scott form makes no sense. Scott is playing awfully, Dyl has been good, so he's improved the team.

We are more efficient going inside 50 than we were last year, could be Darling's influence. He's kicked 11 goals, and we wouldn't have drawn without him in the Lions game. Does he improve the team? Based on the comparison to the players who would be in his spot, (Moose, Pink, Teakle) who arent natural forwards, I'd say yes.

Parker has kept out Wil Phil out of the side, probably been top 3 in our midfielders. Made a good contribution, has improved the side.

If you want to argue have they made us a good side? Then the answer no, but then you should have asked that question instead.

OK. Semantics. I should have thrown in the word 'significantly'. My point stands. Nobody has come to North for 10 years and been a "significantly" better player than where he was previously. If you're happy with that list because Dylan Stephens has been OK for the past few weeks then good for you.

Yeah, so far I've been happier with Dyl, Parker and Darling than any others, but happy to put a pin in this and return at the end of the season. By then hopefully the team would have shown a lot more improvement.

Hahahaha oh man what a list.

I didn't mind Williams I thought he was pretty solid for us. Anderson we paid way overs for but he had a couple of okay seasons. But did either of them make us significantly better? Not really

Quite possibly everyone on the list under the age of 28 who hasn’t been delisted and was not injured or omitted to play in the game. Very good chance we win a final between the years 2026-2030.

If you have to take the great Mastermind's question at such literal face value then it probably makes the point for him

So even when he's wrong, he's right?

Dylan Stephen's form has been very good this year. Just because we're still a shit side and Marstermind is a great poster doesn't change that.
