I figured it was a BF poster after tribey(?) posted that picture of the Port banner being held up in the background of US tv broadcast.

But that FB comment section, what the hell.
What are you thinking

That is definitely a topic for the Get thread. Don't get me started on the butchers apron!
You're a Welshman, are you not? How do you feel about the IRA? I'm not well researched into it and the whole pub, Celtic supporters, were chanting up the 'RA, which I thought was odd considering it was a Scottish match and all that.

/mods can sort out moving this shit lolle

Thought I'd answer here instead of clogging the AFL thread.

The IRA have a noble aim but too many scummy gangsters exploit it.
Celtic v Rangers, seriously? You didn't expect the religion and politics? That's all that keeps the league alive.
It's similar with Cardiff and Swansea (Swansea pro British nazi types, Cardiff pro Welsh, tolerant of other races aPart from the Saxons of course).

My grandfather was a member of the original IRA (pre-gangsters).

I wonder to myself what kind of person I really am. Yesterday after the Superbowl I actively searched for Seatle sports talkback radio stations that broadcast online just to see if the 12th man reacts the same same way that the 61st man does on 5CC.
Oh they do, they really do!

Free speech is constitutionally guaranteed in the USA, including racism, bigotry, use of violence etc. They didnt sign the UN convention on racial discrimination like we did, and set up an act that Georgie Brandis want's to amended by abolishing Sect 18 C, but on free TV and free radio you can't say ****, campaigner, ****, shit, arseh*le, etc. On pay TV or pay radio - no dramas, but you cant pollute the free airwaves of USA.
The freest and most controlled population on earth. Prohibition and free speech, legal aliased cannabis and people serving life for possession, you can marry at 14 but not drink until 21. It's nuts.

It's not that I didn't expect religion and politics but I don't really understand it, especially how it's two Scottish teams but there's a lot concerning Irish politics.

I'm not really sure of the point of nationalism in the UK and Ireland anyway, it seems like such a medieval, old world thing.

Had no idea about the Welsh beef, if Cardiff City is so against British rule then why are they playing in the English league? Lol.

Simple terms. Irish = Catholic, Scottish = Protestant.
Northern Ireland - lots of Scots immigrants
Scotland - lots of Irish immigrants.
Mix it all together and add some good old English imperialism and you have a tinderbox.

As for Cardiff, it is not now and never has been the English league.

The point of nationalism for the Welsh is based on hundreds of years of attempted actual and cultural genocide. We have our own language and culture and it is not only absorbed but has been actively attacked for hundreds of years.

He is quite possibly the only person in the history of online posting boards that is actually more alpha in person than he is behind a keyboard.
You'd know tribes, i hear his headlocks are close to an ISIS beheading.

So everyone in Scotland is part Irish and vice versa. Why strict nationalist Ireland for the Irish or whatever? Purely cultural like you mention below?

It's the English Premier League and English Football League system, innit.

Excuse my ignorance on these political matters, I don't really know my British Isles history.

Plus...I've heard it said that their deep south is really in the north

Celtic and Hibs were started by Irish migrants. Scots migrants bought much of the farm land in Northern Irelamd after the Brits took over.

It is absolutely and NEVER has been the English premier league or English football league. It is The Premier League, the Football League.

It had Scottish teams in the past too. The Scots league was a geographical breakaway and the Welsh league was forced on us by UEFA in the 1990's. It was only ever going to be a smi pro at best league.

Looks like you're correct, I've seen and heard it referred to as the EPL many times colloquially.

Really? Which teams?

But a Welsh Football League has been around for a century (now the second tier but the Welsh PL is now essentially the same thing as the old WFL as far as I can understand, as the English PL is to the old Football League div 1)

No it hasn't. There was never a national league. It was a strange concoction of North or South....long story.
As for 'looks like you're correct'...how dare you doubt me :).

Berwick Rangers and Gretna from Scotland spring to mind.
English teams play in the Welsh league, Oswestry and TNS are English or part English towns that identify as Welsh so play in Welsh league.
