The ROTJ director was just a yes man. People complain about Lucas because he's an awful director and a poor writer especially when it comes to dialogue. Great world builder though.

There was very little wrong with A New Hope direction wise. Nothing writing wise either, but he had other writers and many rewrites were done.

One of the problems with the prequels cam be attributed to there being only 1 draft which had 1 rewrite before it was done. That would come down to the yes man sucking arse.
