I feel like you can still walk a fine line acknowledging the rebuild while also pandering to the folks who want the quick fix of shooting up the ladder (because it's SO important to finish 11th again) spruiking the fact the silver lining of this year's injuries was fast-tracking lots of young blokes who got far more experience in one year than they would have otherwise, likewise allowing the coaches to learn a lot more about where they are at.

If this is 2016 again then we’re headed for another 2017/2018 style off season aren’t we.

Listening to Welsh on Footy Classified it seems as though he's forgone the rebuild and the protect-the-draft-hand mantra we've had for the last couple years for the belief that we can trade them to bring in players to try to be successful quicker, (or "push up the ladder quickly" as quote from the EFC video), thinking it's "time to start taking risks" and regarding the drafting so far and stability we've created as being enough to add to, all of which stinks to me as pandering to impatient people behind the scenes.

This strategy may have been more realistic at the end of 2027 when Welsh was originally meant to take the reigns and when we were meant to be more advanced in our development to warrant it so now it just feels like impatience/rushing it which could throw us back into our old ways. I hope I'm wrong though.
Trading for players has always been in the plan. Not like we were not interested in Reid. We are talking to Flanders. There have been others we have spoken to.

And the quote was “opportunity “ to push up the ladder quickly. Part of that is replacing the fitness staff to get the likes of Ridley back on the field.

We need a combo of both drafts and trading in.
Seems unlikely we will get much of anything trading in this year, but its a must have factor for any team placed anywhere on the ladder.

That, and a clubs leadership do not operate in a vacuum in going after a rebuild. Its supporters want to see the team win now. There is a time limit with a team bottoming out as it will turf out presidents, coaches, staff. Not understanding that intrinsic makes positions untenable sooner or later.
