God, this is a ridiculously boring thread. Talk about trying to find something to argue about in the off season.

Rendell drafted Dangerfield before Rioli. Who cares - I STILL think this is the right decision. None of us truly know if Emma Quayle is accurate about the rest of his ratings - and who cares, as it is completely theoretical.

Rioli had a lot of question marks against him last year. Talent wasn't one of them. But he would have been a very high risk pick for us at ten.

And can SOMEONE please give me an example of a team that wins because of raw talent and not because of disciplined team structure? SOMEONE?

excellent post

I know you have a very liberal definition of "discipline" (at least, that's what you told the attorneys) - but, CLEARLY here is a side where the players ENFORCED discipline and structure BECAUSE pure talent wasn't working. They were creamed by sides that weren't good enough to hold their jock - because those sides were more focused and disciplined.

Time for YOU to be released from overt structure and discipline, Crow-mo ...

lol.

my definition of structure sure doesn't involve being empowered and given various freedoms and self regulation.

this is so far wrong, I'm not even going to argue it.

My observations on some of the past premiers:
- Hawthorn 2008 widely lauded as potentially the best drilled team in the comp and Clarkson winning praise for his structure on the day

very well drilled yes, but clarkson has received praise for his multiple game plans and options.

- West Coast 1992 and 1994 - Malthouse was the coach finally able to bring discipline and structure to one of the most talented lists in history (but without champion key forwards). Their average goals per game dropped but the results improved

you're having a laugh aren't you?

- Adelaide 1997 and 1998 - not as talented a list as in 1993 but, as you can tell from player interviews, a team that stuck rigidly to strict Blighty rules.

yes, you are having a laugh. blighty's rules were back yourself. that was a free, unstructured team.

There'a a lot of paragraphs here for you to quote one by one! ;):)

most of them wonk views weren't good enough to warrant a response.
