I always said that I would support GWS as my second team until the day they beat us, at which point they will become, in my mind, our arch nemesis. That day has arrived. Now, like I suspect most of the others on this board did, I thought we'd have another year or two at least before we had to worry about it. But it's here, and while we can dissect the game itself and what went wrong, how scrappy we were, how easily out-muscled by a bunch of kids, let us reflect on what this means for the future of football in NSW. We finally have a cross-town rival, a genuine grudge match, a spectacle that will draw more supporters to both teams.

So here's to the rivalry. May we mush their pasty little bogan faces into the SCG turf in Rd 15!

I was the same. Never disliked GWS, until tonight about halfway through the 3rd quarter.

This. Filthy with them from then on. The way they came out of the woodwork in the second half. Pathetic squibs.

Yep, pure cowardice not to turn it on from the get-go. Let us get a false sense of security while protecting their fragile little bodies. Worthless scum.

Its a lose lose game and they are a waste of time

We won the first four and it was seen as nothing and we lose one and the sky falls, we cant win

I dont give a crap about the rivalry they dont seem like a real team

Best case scenario we bounce back and get serious, and GWS scalp a couple other top 8 contenders

They will and fans will hate them.

I just can't get over how smug and cocky the younger players are. To disrespect a player due to missing a gf through injury is just classless and right out the Kevin sheedy school of bastardry. No tack.

I honestly think they will be the most despised team with no fans by the time they win their first flag in a few years.

well after being heckled by a few louts on the train after the game really hate these plastic campaigner's. one of the blokes still had the price tag on his stupid cap. pissed as mutes drinking VB (seriously vb?) acting like dicks.

I asked them if they knew there teams song and that shut them up :)

Why do footy fans think winning one game means the right to be arseholes. Tbh I haven't really come across smug swan fans after a win on the way home on pt. swan fans are always happy and engage in good banter. Never had a hand on head moment on the way home after a game. Pie and recently hawk fans are insufferable.

It sucks being beaten by your little brother for the first time. There's nothing good that can be said about it

They might have been a curious novelty up until now for you, but rest assured you'll want to kick their arse from now on

Bloody oath there is no more just thinking this is a boring game, the next time we thump them I will enjoying a lot more than in the past. But I don't think that will happen for a long time now.

Matter of complete indifference to me. I really couldn't care less about them. It's just another game. I hate essendon and blues fans for their unbridled born to rule mentalities. I can't imagine ever feeling that way about giants fans

I think we could be on the end of some real pastings from them though. I always thought their real weakness has been the absence of any genuinely good tall defenders. They've got that now.

The point in the last quarter when the Sydney chant was ringing around the stadium and was then matched by the Giants chant showed what this thing could be. There's certainly dislike present between the two teams and some fans (I wanted to run on and throttle Coniglio for what I assume were "too old, too slow" barbs he threw at ROK as he ran on as the sub - ditto Toby Greene with McVeigh) but now they've won for the first time, it will really take off as a rivalry.

Some of those young Giants are as arrogant as this board was earlier this week and it will be a delight to watch this rivalry blossom and I can't wait for them to be put in place next time. With that said of course, they fully deserved to win after just wanting it way more than we did. They worked harder, tackled harder, ran harder and they completely embarrassed our side after quarter time.

Plus seeing Mumford in that awful jumper really hurts. I don't give a shit about Lamb, Everitt, White, Armstrong being in other jumpers, but Mumford being a beast in that ****ing jumper annoys me tremendously.

I want a real rivalry with a real team, not one based on being loud mouth arrogant smug arseholes, which is what they are. Doesn't surprise me as they have two classless gits who I am sure are behind this angst, grubby Allen and sheedy.

They are nothing and will be nothing. They have 5k ex pat fans with double memberships, again they will be the first successful side with no fans. Don't under estimate how much sydneysiders hate afl.

It's like watching nsw's answer to collingwood being born...and I love watching collingwood. ..always gives me a team to root against. Ps that wasn't storm clouds, that was smoke from burning cars in blacktown. ;)

WSW were greatly successful by being instamtky competitive and feeding the rivalry with SYD FC. GWS were unable to do this as building a competitive AFL team is not as easy and success was close to impossible in tbe initial years. They now might get some genuine support.

Swans are now in a real fight for hearts and minds and Buddy's recruitment should make more sense to detractors than ever.

At the fan day there was a massive line up for Buddy at the putt putt.Poor Rhino had about 8 people lining up at his. From swans supporters I know it's pretty even on who wants him at the club and not. From what I saw and heard at the fan day Tuco is right all the kids including mine and adults want to see Buddy

I can't understand why people get their noses out of joint because somebody wants to attend a live game every weekend.

Even more so in Perth where it's tough to get a ticket if you aren't a member. Why would you be derided for wanting to go to the footy every week?

Strange...

We've had this argument on the boards several times since GWS entered the competition and it never ends well. People are free to support their team however they choose. The last thing we need right now is to start deriding our own.

This. Filthy with them from then on. The way they came out of the woodwork in the second half. Pathetic squibs.

I take it you have thrown away your inaugural GWS foundation membership medallion?

There is no rivalry for me yet only a growing respect and admiration.
I really enjoyed watching them take us apart last night and again today, well except for the score line.
They were enthusiastic, relentless, arrogant, confident, courageous they hit in hard never taking a backward step, they had belief were first to the ball they could smell blood in the water and played like it. I loved the way they got in our faces, the little dirty push offs on our heads when getting up from packs and contests, the niggling harassment, finishing their tackles taking the wind out of us, yep they just wanted it so much more. I really loved the way they went about it was enjoyable to watch.
I think the GWS win is great for football and the comp it will take more than that win to create a rivalry for me, Im more dirty on the effort we put up. I cant help but admire them, for now..
