I hope Gonzo, nothing against Fed, just be nice to see someone else win for once.

How ever I think the Rog in 3, 4 at most.

I've been following tennis (well grand slams as I don't give a toss about the rest of the tournies) since the late 70s. Recently it has bored me.

In one respect it has got better given that so many countries are now involved and a slam draw will include heaps of talent, but it's in a lull at the moment. And it's because of the dominance of Federer. It's because the style at the momnet is boring. As much as I want Hewitt to win as he is an Aussie, his tennis bores me. I want to see some serve and volley, some charging of the net, and some power tennis.

This is the first Grand Slam final in years that I'm actually anticipating.

Hail Gonzales. Hopefully if he wins he can show others that Federer can be beaten by a power game.

In all fairness, Federer does do a lot of charges to the net.

Federer in four sets.

5-7 6-4 6-3 6-3.

I believe that's the only way to defeat Federer when he's on his game.

Safin did it a couple of years ago in 5 sets when everyone believed Federer had the Aus Open in the bag already. You have to overpower him and you have to be consistent, although it is very risky (but when it works...).

Gonzo is not without a chance. I really want to see a close, long 5 set match with the best shot taking we've ever seen but in reality, I think Federer will win. In the end it will come down to who is the more calmer - Federer has been in too many finals so he will be used to the pressure. I'm not sure how Gonzo will handle it but I'm expecting him to be nervous (first final and up against the best player of his time).

If Gonzo can keep his nerve together and maintain his power game, there's the possibility he can defeat Federer. Federer however, is the best returner in the game so I think Gonzo fill find it harder to keep his serve. I'll go Federer in four.

I remember when Sampras was at his peak there was a lot of talk about the game being boring because it was all serve volley and quick points. Bring me back that tennis anyday. These baseline chess games bore me. I can't wait for the cycle to turn and power tennis to come back in.

I love when players go to the net. Makes it more interesting.

R-Fed in straight sets: 6-2 6-4 6-1

Another boring final, in other words....
Difference with Fed Ex is that even if he wins in straight sets, it's never boring. Just watching him is incredible, you think you've seen the best he can do but then he does something unbeliveable. Like that match against Roddick, normally a semi final with that scoreline would be boring and dull, but it was some of the most amazing tennis you'll ever see. Consider yourself lucky to be able to see a champion like Roger Federer, there won't be another like him for a long long time.

pat rafter/pat cash/becker = exciting
sampras/Edberg = boring

it's how you play it and how much risk you take. Sampras was boring because he had a booming serve, thus weakass returns and easy volleys. Edberg didn;t have a booming serve but was very calculated.

The thing is, tennis is only my 3rd favourite sport, and a reasonable way behind Footy and Cricket. I wanna see long, epic, even Tennis contests, like the Roddick v El Aynaoi (btw, what's happened to him?) of a few years back. Best tennis game I've ever seen. But they seem even rarer than great champs like Fed-Ex......

Had a couple of bets. Federer to win the 1st set either 6-0, 6-1 or 6-2, Federer to win in straight sets and also there to be less than 35 games at $2.20
