I was disappointed not to see Adam Fisher miss out. Not just by the Crows, but overall. He's a really great bloke and I reckon with a work ethic like his he could compensate for his (at times) questionable disposal.
Craig IMO would have factored whether his skills could be improved - again he's probably a good player but there were in the opinion of the AFC better options - bad luck for the lad.

exactly right,
lets face it, a year on and Gayfer hasn't exactly proven anyone wrong.
In fact he has proved everyone right ;)

Actually one thing is clear from our selections is that the AFC always intended to take Nye with its first rookie pick, as he didn't even train with that special squad. Could it even be that this is the very reason that he wasn't there, so that he wasn't put on show?

Spot on as usual Macca, they claimed they would have drafted him if they had had another pick in the ND. Thats using their smarts :D IMO.

Yeah, it is pretty disappointing for him. I was hoping he would at least be picked up by an AFL club.

Apparently his former club North Ballarat (not the Rebels, but the VFL team) want him to come back. Sandringham also want his services back.

Reading between the lines & based on how the club rates Ryan Nye it seems to me almost a certainty that he'll (as long as he 'goes forward' in 2005) be promoted to the main list during 2005 or at the end of it.

I love the fact that we've gone for hard-at-it types and Nye is another example of this.

I think Griffen, Andrews & Hinge are more 'project players' and will need to bust their guts and improve out of sight to 1) get promoted ahead of him or 2) get promoted at all.

I am glad we left the door open to Hinge.

It must have been nigh imposible for Ryan to go anywhere else than Adelaide.

It was an absolute Griffen that John would come to the City of Churches.

Question - why do Port Power supporters put all of those premierships from the SANFL on an AFL website.

Answer -They must have small man syndrome.

Just on Griffen, the information I've read on him has listed his height at 196cm, but the article in the Advertiser says he is 199cm.

Hopefully the Advertiser is right for once.

Are there any Crow fans in Perth, or anyone from Perth at all reading this, who have seen Griffen play and can tell us some more about him?

Yeah thats absolutely right... i the herald sun he was listed @ 199cm so he must be... 196cm was probably early in the year so has grown a bit ;)

When they showed Griffin on telly a few weeks back he looked around 6'6" in the old language which means that the199 cms would be right.

He's built like a stick (not strap) of liquorice and he'll need every bit of the 2 years on the rookie list IMO to justify promotion to the main list.

Hinge is an excellent type to take a gamble on, succeed or not. He hasn't been in the conventional under-age system like most draftees or rookies have, so there's probably a lot of up-side in him still.

As others have already said Nye would be a very good chance to be promoted to the main list in the event of injury, and a reasonable year at SANFL level will probably see him promoted anyway, with Ben Hart coming towards the end of his career.

They're an interesting lot actually, as they're all at different levels in their careers.

Griffen might be alright. quite a few ruckman have come through the rookie draft, so it's not impossible.

as for having 7 ruck types at our disposal, I reckon - good.

drafting young ruckman is a lottery, and in any lottery you want the most tickets; most chances to win.

It doesn't matter if our next gun ruckman is Meesen or Griffen, just as long as we find him.
