I generally don't like this sort of stuff, but in a time of desperate need I think it is important that everybody hears this and they can decide the facts for themselves. I heard this after the Melbourne game by the way so it isn't something that has come up after the weekend.

Bomber and Jimmy Bartel haven't spoken for two years. Don't particularly like one another on a personal level, they just go about there business. I also heard this before aker made his comments about his relationship with Leigh so there is no correlation.

Players questioning the game plan. It would seem this is the case if you read other posts.

Nick Batchelor was ready a month ago and was in full training. They weren't playing him because they wanted to keep playing Slade. I am not sure of the ruling but if the senior player was ready to come back on the list didn't the rookie have to go straight off.

And the best one, during half time of the Sydney game the coaches were giving the players a spray for the way they were moving the footy and the options they were taking. Timmy Callan got singled out and asked why he would come out of defence and chip it sideways. He stood up and said that if somebody up the field would f:D :D :D :Ding present maybe he would kick it up the line. McCartney apparently took him aside and tore shreds off him and told him he would never play another game of seniors at the club whilst he was defensive coach. Apparently timmy has gone alright the last two weekends it will be interesting to see how this progresses. All the players supported timmy by the way.

I am not endorsing any of this. This is just something I have heard that I would like you to know. This is what these boards are about. Make of it what you will, its not my opinion its just stories I heard from reliable sources.

This one seems true to me. I went to training not long after Batch was sposed to be out for ages, and he walks out onto the field, looked fine, and started talking to the trainer guy (not Loris). The way he moved, it didn't strike me that he was too injured.

I hope the Bartel thing isnt true because if a player doesnt like his coach or viser verser the player may want to leave and the coach might want to trade that player, Bartel is my fav player and one of our best so we cant lose him so i hope all thats false

This was mentioned after the Sydney game by Prodigal Sons, I think, but he said that it was Bomber who went off at Callan. If it's true as ezbian has related it then McCartney is a tool for saying something like that to a player who was responding honestly - and correctly - to direct questioning.

Thats what I said after the Sydney game. A good friend of mine was told by Callan. And my source does not generally lie.
Lets see if Callan gets another game??

Total horse shyte

If they had not spoken for 2 yrs then Jimmy would have been put up for trade last year and a good offer would have been taken rather than pay him 300k a year.

You get slammed on the ground then all these juvenile rumours pop up again...next it will be Otto and Kingy are at it again.

Give it a rest this isnt the tigers Board!

It may be true about Bartel and Thompson, but it doesn't bother me. Thompson has stated in the past that he deliberately keeps away from the playing group in terms of social relationships.

The Batchelor story may be true as well, but then I wouldn't be surprised if it was largely due to the rules. A rookie can only be played if a senior player is unavialble for at least six (or it could be eight) weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if the AFL enforces the lay-off even if the player makes a 'miraculous' recovery. However players that are on the long term injury list must also be verified as being unavailable by the AFL doctor, not just the club doctor.

True on both accounts - I've heard Brian Cook say as well that he keeps an arm's length relationship with players because he has to do their contracts.

And some odd injuries keeping less critical players on the injury list because a rookie has turned out a better player has hqppened at other clubs before

I think this board needs a rule about 2 word posts or posts that add nothing to the discussion getting deleted, and moderators who enforce them.

Keep that crap to bay13.

Fair crack of the whip!

If you have a problem with a post, do something constructive like reporting it rather than complaining about the mods not doing anything within 15 nano-seconds of the post being made.

Replace Bartel with Scarlett and it's a common fact.

I don't think Bartel is held in high-esteem by the coaching staff, but I don't particularly mind. He is a gun, desperately out of form like the rest of the boys :(

I know this has been done to death but we really are going nowhere without a key forward. It is the one glaring difference between us and a number of the top teams (excluding W/C who make up for it with their midfield)

Ottens was a good player but he was not a forward. Never will be. He is great in the ruck when he's match fit.

Fevola was a young untamed buck like Barry Hall was and he was there for the taking last year. Guys like Ling, JB, Kell, Enright, Tenace are all replaceable.Yes we love them like our own but the facts are we can do without one if it meant a change to our structure and gameplan. Yes it will upset our team balance, yes they will be excellent players at another club but we would have something to aim the footy at!!!

I know some people will say wait and hang on coz we got Hawkins and Nablett coming along but they are 5 or more years away from making the impact we need. Plus the small fact that they might just as easily not turn out to be the guns we need.

I still think we are close, very close actually, but without the key forward we aren't going to consistanly kick enough goals. Its a proven fact that we can't. I'm sick of going to the footy hoping Kingsley jags 3+ so we're a chance of winning. I actually feel for him because he is not a key forward. He's a Mark Williams or Russell Robertson.

I just feel we overdo our list at times. We didn't see the forrest for the trees last year. King, Ottens, Harley, and Kingsley's contract must be closely scrutinised next time. They have no where near the market value their contracts reflect. Thier output reflects at least 200K diiference IMO

Anyway end of rant

Spot On. Midfielders are a dime a dozen. There are so many midfielders that come through the system every year. Many players in the mould of those you mentioned above. If you had a clearance king or a Chris judd you would hold on to them. But if a key forward comes up we should have been moving heaven and earth to get them.

Fev has been great this year and would have slotted in nicely at Skilled. Would have done for quite a while.

In the rumour department it would seem some really nasty stuff is going down between players at the Cattery.

Rumour has it (and when I say rumour I mean straight from a players mouth) that Matty Scarlett is causing alot of tension at the club, having nothing to do with players like Ling, Kelly, Johnson, Tenace etc., and generally acting like a complete twat.

It has also been mentioned that Scarlett will refuse to talk to young players at the club until they have earned his respect. Now as I said I'm not making this up to cause trouble. It's the last thing Geelong needs. But if a leader of the club is acting high and mighty and making other players feel unwelcome I believe people need to know.

Scarlett needs to grow up and lead from the front, instead of being cocky and ungrateful for the position he is in.

Garbage, Scarlett and Tenance & S.Johnson were cracking jokes with each other, play fighting and generally looking like best mates at the golf day earlier this year.

Name the player you heard it from!

I get a bit fed up with these "straight from a player's mouth" stories. Last year a friend's husband was working with one of the top ups who told of insider stuff at the club. I think this sort of player should be sacked.

Players may talk to close friends and family, but talking to all and sundry isn't on.

Nah, I like to leave the posts up of banned posters. It's sort of like leaving the head of an excuted prisoner on a spike as a warning to others!

This doesn't suprise me. Thompson should stick him in the centre circle all game where he's at his best instead of putting him at half back or a back pocket. :thumbsd:
