i chose magpies. I support the Port Adelaide Football Club and the magpies are part of the Port Adelaide Football club
But....its no more an interest than keeping an eye on our AFL listed players.
I dont like the SANFL. Its an irrelevant competition and my only interest in it is seeing our AFL listed players develop.

Yes i went to the 2014 SANFL grand final but i couldnt tell you the last SANFL game before the GF that i attended

There is an ex-South Adelaide player that follows Port in the AFL with a passion, goes every game, spends cash in the GDV

I say Port Magpies because of the connection but I couldn't care less if the won or lost. The SANFL is a dying competition that will not exist in its current form in 10-15 years time (maybe even earlier). As someone stated earlier, no one cares about the SANFL unless you are 35-40 years old.

o_O.../me scratches head......username Alberton_Magpie.....Other teams: NYG, ManCity, WWT Eagles

I actually commend people who support other local league clubs and also support Port in the AFL, can't say I could do the same, I wonder if most people that have different local club allegiances but follow AFL Port are newer followers after '97 and don't have inbred hatred ingrained by family members through the generations through local PAFC dominance

When I came over in June for the Geelong game I sat next to an old bloke who said he played for South Adelaide in 1971.

He was pretty fanatical about Port, drank plenty during the game and got into some lively banter with the Geelong supporters sitting in front of us.

Sturt fan here. I grew up going to matches and I even played for Sturt U/16s a few years back.

It's wierd, pretty much every place I've lived or have been educated at has been linked with the club (through zoned areas). I was born and grew up in Stirling, I then moved to St. Georges when I was eight, and last year I moved to Unley Park. The two schools I attended (Pulteney Grammar from R-7, Scotch from 8-12) are zoned schools/clubs for the club, as is the University I attend (Adelaide). Strange.

I only go to a few Sturt games a year, as I have other commitments (Uni, work, internship placements, attending Port matches at the Oval). Do I think the SANFL is relevant as a competition? Somewhat, but it obviously pales in comparison to the AFL.

Strange that the upper middle class education you received is connected to an area with a similar demographic?

It's not really :).

I'd consider my local SFL a grade to be more relevant than the SANFL

Yeah, that's what's funny what with the whole #grassrootsfooty noncery.

I'd say having a kick with your mates for your local suburban club is slightly more GRF than cooking the books to pay off a delisted AFL player's house over the course of a decade.

You're not saying local footy clubs books aren't cooked are you??? They are just as dodgy...

Of course not, I just find the assertion that Port Adelaide and Collingwood are cash-hungry plastics while, say, the likes of Centrals are salt-of-the-earth community concerns to be absurd.

Surely the pure definition of grassroots footy is being able to wander across the road to your local club and at worst, have a kick in the D's.

That is the definition that people are supposed to follow. Not the quasi (intentionally not semi) professional league that is the SANFL.

Unley Park and St. Georges are obviously expected to lie within Sturt's zone. It's plausible for Stirling to be included in the zone, but not as much.

Both schools (Pulteney and Scotch) are expected to lie within the zone, but of the handful of schools to be affiliated with Sturt, all three (including Uni) are affiliation clubs to Sturt, playing in the SAAFL (through Old Collegians and University teams).

Pretty strange.

Mid 20s and went to Pulteney? No doubt you're in a few year books at my house...
