Round 15 – thewizardmelon
BYE - Mount Headless Demons, Gold GreyCrow Royals, Jackster City Swamprats
Coney Island Warriors (14.9.93) defeated by Fighting Furies (16.4.120)
We start this round with an exciting affair, between the Warriors and the Furies. At least on field, anyway! The game started neck and neck in the first, no real lead opening up until Bonz put the Furies 12 pts up at the first change. The Warriors would continue to fight back however, and despite trailing by 22 a few minutes before half time, held the lead at the last break. Enter the Fast Finishing Furies, who kicked 6 goals to the Warriors 2, to take home the chocolates in this one. pantskyle (25 disposals, 100DT) put up a valiant fight and The Filth Wizard chipped in with a bag of 3, but it was the TRUMAN#1 show (25 disposals, 5 tackles 109DT) accompanied by Orange crush (28 touches, 101 DT) and NaturalDisaster (21 touches, 100 DT). Sadly, even the 46 captains couldn’t stop the Furies from winning this one. A missed opportunity for the FF.

Roys FFC (8.3.61) defeated by Ophidian Old Boys (14.4.88) @ Brunswick Oval
In what was originally labelled a snooze fest, this game turned out to be anything but. With several players having played for both sides, this game was fierce from the get go. The Roys took a slender 4pt lead into the first change and then seemingly forgot they had more Qooty to play. It was all the Old Boys from there, who piled on 10 goals to 4 for the remainder of the match and comfortably running out winners, getting out to a 15pt lead at half time and never surrendering the game. fitzroybowiedog laid 10 tackles, to go with 91DT and did his best to keep his team in the game, however the firepower of Pugsley (27 disposals, 92DT) gab213 (6 goals, 65 DT) and philreich (18 disposals, 2 goals, 83 DT) was more than enough to keep the Old Roys at bay.

Baghdad Bombers (16.12.108) defeat Las Vegas Bears @ Abdu Prison (16.9.105)
Two top of the table hitters was always going to be a classic (and yet not even MOTR at the time!). As had been the case for many games this round, the away side Las Vegas came out hotter, taking a 2 goal lead that extended into a 19 point lead at the main change. A further 4 goals a piece in the third saw Las Vegas holding onto a three goal lead that in this game felt like a 3point lead. Baghdad switched it on in the last, adding 5.3 to the Bears 2.0 to come simply barnstorming home and steal the game by 3 points. The Bombers will remember this game fondly, as they did not lead all day until the last goal was kicked, becoming the only home side to win this round. Grav (5.3, 60DT) and KohPhi (4.1, 93DT) were huge with two goals each in the last, as was JoeldTrafford with 25 touches, 4 tackles ad 94 DT. For the Bears, RonnieRaven (26 disposals, 3 goals, 109 DT) was best afield, followed closely by sssss and Millky95, with 83 and 82DT points respectively.

Dragons FFC (17.7 109) defeated by East Side Hawks (17.11.113)@ Ljp’s Lair
If you thought the Baghdad and Bears came was good, this game was equal to if not arguably better. Another high scoring affair, this time at the home of the Dragons, who were desperate to try and defeat last year’s premiers as they made a push towards securing finals once more. When the game kicked off, the Hawks started the better of the two, turning a 1 goal lead into a 26 point lead at half time, courtesy of 3 sausageroll (5.3, 66 DT) sausage rolls. Similarly to the previous game, goals kicked were even in the third, with 3 apiece, but then the Dragons threw caution to the wind, turned on FireUp mode and snagged 8?! goals. Would it be enough? Halfway through the last, the Dragons hit the lead! But the reigning premiers showed they know how to win, with SM kicking the last to ensure they grabbed the deserved win. purple Jess had 28 touches and 110 DT, starring for the Dragons alongside Bradesmaen's 5 goals. For the Hawks, SM had 36 touches and 2 goals (135DT), the aforementioned roll had 5 goals, and both PhenomenalV1 and eth-dog chipped in with a nice 7 tackles, 90DT and 22 touches, 93DT respectively.
