I enjoy the movie the segment with Leigh Paaaaaaaatcsh but it always seems rushed. Tonight they wanted to take your reviews on 2 movies from last week. They took one caller, and that was for the entire segment.
End the soapbox at 5.25pm, ads. Sports Central and that should give more time for other segments.

Hungry for Conflict​

Twenty-eight out of twenty-nine Herald Sun experts have tipped Hawthorn to beat Collingwood. Scott Pendelbury is the lone believer for obvious reasons. Now in the Age, twenty out of twenty-one tipped the Hawks. Mick Malthouse says Pies so say no more. In essence no one gives the Pies a chance. Well I do for what it’s worth. Has there ever been a side that has entered the season with so much hype as Hawthorn is doing? It’s become an epidemic. The Hawks have become some sort of super side since losing last year’s preliminary final to the Pies. Even losing their ruckman Max Bailey has not stopped the love. The whinging and mourning of losing a preliminary final has obviously won over the experts.
I’m KB, that’s my Take

KB is peeved and looks to be bypassing tonight’s game to take a hatchet to the Hawks and their enablers. He wants an answer from his comrade in Thursday arms, Grunk “Venom” Denham who attempts to explain the Hawks' perceived advantage over a depleted Collingwood side. Grunk thinks the Hawks are on fire after their pre-season: depth, recruited very, very well; Gunston up forward and the Bailey injury is still just a hiccup. Boumann in defence and they’re pretty much the complete side right now, besides Adelaide. ... Adelaide!? Ya gotta luv the way the expert journos lecture the unwashed sports masses about pre-season not meaning anything, and then they buy right into it.

KB demands to know what’s holding back the Pies and Grunk obliges: Krakouer, Johnson, Didak, Beams, Maxwell, Wellingham. KB counters with Blair and Fasolo to take the Krakouer roll. Grunk throws in the inevitable Leon Davis as part of talent missing.

KB: You’ve fallen in love with Hawthorn too, have you?
Grunk: Well at the moment I have coz they’re winners. You’ve gotta fall in love with winners. …

KB: How are Hawthorn winners? They didn’t win last year.
Grunk: No, but they’re winners now. They’re flying. Absolutely flying. … You’re looking at me like a blank sheet of paper.

KB: No, you’re like all the other experts, you’ve just somehow; this epidemic has caught on and you’re just sheep and all of a sudden Hawthorn is the greatest side of all.
Grunk: Well have you ever thought that you might be wrong and everyone else is right? Hawthorn are going really well; they’re flying.

KB: The premiership’s over already. The season’s over. We might as well wrap it up.
Grunk: No, we’re talking round one and we’re talking who’s in form now and who’s winning this weekend. And it’s Hawthorn.

Off to the Mensa Talkback Society for a hundred biased and often mindless opinions. KB gets in his 2,116th reference to Juddy’s alleged dodgy shoulder in amongst an almost exclusive Pies/Hawks gabfest. Grunk is tipping the Tigers to flip the Blues and KB wants nothing to do with Grunk being on the Tigers’ bandwagon and suggests he sticks to putting the boots into Melbourne. … KB is flabbergasted for the entire hour about so many falling in love with Hawthorn.

With the seemingly anxious KB in overdrive this morning, he’ll certainly have plenty in store for the protégé who returns at eleven o’clock to rumble in the pre-game jungle. Let’s check out the confidence exuding from expert tipster, Jon LeBaron-Ralph:
Little bit nervous about tonight. Was very, very bullish about Richmond, and then I went and tipped Carlton. I’m at a loss with my tips, KB. I know you’re the best tipster in the world … and it’s got me buggered. I think I’ve got the yips. I’ve got the yips with my tips.

Ohhh. K. So much for an expert tipster possessing something remotely close to confidence. What’s the show’s host got say on tipping? Should be no lack of confidence here.

KB: Well, you’ve got to know your subject for starters. You’ve got to know the sides, you’ve got to know the players, the strengths, the weaknesses. You’ve got to know all of that. You’ve then got to have an intrinsic value to weigh up the opposition against the opposition that they’re actually playing. Take in account where they’re playing, how they’ve played, a bit of history, bit of future, factor in the young players coming through, what’s the improvement going to be, where’s the old players at? You’ve got to all of that. It’s very, very complicated being the world’s champion tipster. And that’s why I’ve been able to dominate probably the last twelve years because I’ve got all this knowledge. … I’ve run out of competition; that’s what’s happened over the last few… Well I’ve been banned from a number of competitions over the last few years because you’ve got to give people a chance and people don’t like running second all the time. …

JLR is going for Hawthorn to beat the Pies, “but then again I thought Richmond would win and I’ll probably tip Carlton in the end. I’ve tossed a coin with Essendon and North Melbourne as well.” … KB’s had enough of this and blindsides the unsuspecting protégé from left field.

KB: What about the greatest rivalry we’ve got in football at the moment? What do you think it is?
JLR: I don’t even know if it’s Carlton and Collingwood anymore.

KB: I know what it is
JLR: What is it?

KB: It’s Mark [Rubbinson] and Jonny [LeBaron-Ralph].
JLR: Oh, give us a spell.

KB: The rivalry to be the Chief football writer of the Herald Sun. Now I noticed during the week that you had a story on the back page about Richmond football club and signing up players and talking to Garry Marsh, and he was talking about the Tigers and looking forward to the season. … And then – BANG, the next day, today Mark [Rubbinson] comes out and absolutely gives it to you by saying best ever time to put up or shut up Tigers … so all of a sudden I can see every story you put up, Rubbo’s going to knock down and every story Rubbo puts up, you’re going to knock down.
JLR: That’s ridiculous. The most ridiculous comment of all time.

KB: This is a war down at the Herald Sun to see who’s going to be the chief football writer and it’s getting nasty.

KB continues to aggravate LeBaron-Ralph, who by the way is a Tiger supporter, about the alleged turmoil and friction in the Herald Sun offices and the hour finishes with JLR’s tips: Blues, Hawks (wavering), Dees, Crows, Dockers, Kangas (tossed a coin), Eagles, and Saints.

Kudos to Tiger fans though to have hope every year and turn up in their tens of thousands. Gonna be a very long season for them, shockingly tough early draw.

Actually the joke is on the troll. Someone, especially a septuagenarian, who persists on being a troll and shit-stirrer is a useless human being. It must kill him deep down that his club is a pathetic excuse for a sporting organisation. He can joke about it as much as he likes, talk smack about Carlton, talk up his team year after year, but he and his club are a joke. Two finals appearances in 30 years and this year will be another 0-5 start. Why doesn't he actually offer something meaningful on his program? Other than being "the world's biggest troll" and an AFL apologist, would SEN be worse off if he was sent back to his retirement village?

Some people take him too seriously, its all an act. He's very funny when he goes on CF and DD was good today.

Hungry for Round 18 Redemption​

Now I’ve got to hand it to Carlton; they were there for the taking last night. The Tigers blew a great opportunity to bury the Blues in more ways than one. Went it counted the Tigers just didn’t stand up. Carlton had players underdone and missing through injury and Carlton also had the best player on the ground in Kreuzer, and Richmond sadly the worst in Tyrone Vickery. It’s not good enough to challenge and then fall away. The Blues had a long list of players in Yarran and Murphy and Gibbs and Simpson and Hampson, Carrazzo, and Laidler; goes on and on. Sadly for the Tigers they had only Cotchin, Foley, Rance and Riewoldt and a big gap to the rest.

The Friday morning aftermath of yet another Tigers disastrous season opening against the Kreuzer Bluezers should be made a little easier for KB with the Grand Manier guzzling of morning journalism, Grunk “Venom” Denham to shoulder the inevitable calls from revenge-seeking Blues fans.

Hello, Grunk butters up to KB from the beginning by suggesting the Richmond performance would have been good enough to beat ten other teams, but concedes that the Blues are pretty good. Hmmm, most people have the Tigers finishing about ninth to eleventh, so that’s a typical edgy start by the fence-sitting Grunk. He concludes that Carlton’s lesser lights were “absolutely excellent, Richmond’s were deplorable.”

KB begins scratching the proverbial floor for positives like a chook by lamenting the opening miss by Brad Miller through to the last-quarter Dustin Martin miss from “twenty-five metres, you know, ready to put the foot on the throat of the Blues.” Listeners will be reminded of that costly miss through the hour as many times as KB reminded us that the Tigers were in front at 3QT in the corresponding 2011 clash. He was disappointed in pinup boy, Deledio who didn’t have an impact on the game, Martin – no impact; and, oh noooo, here it comes:p: “Tyrone Vickery was sooooo poor last night. His ability to get his hands on the ball; I was so disappointed.” Grunk calls out Martin for giving up the chase on Yarran simply saying, “it didn’t look good.”

KB’s ready to fly through the calls. I’ll bet he is! First caller, Amanda starts with dut-da-dut-da-dar in tune as well as an American Idol audition performer, as KB braces his predictable defences for the morning talkback onslaught. That first-line defence is to ponder how confident many Carlton fans were then Martin lined up for that [point] at the six minute mark? … Regular caller who listeners like to call flathead has been singing the wacky praises and top eight contention of Richmond for weeks, phones in to give the predictable looser excuses such as inexperience, young back-line… KB dismisses the excuses and reiterates his utter disappointment, as “the Blues were there for the taking.”

Caller’s nursery rhyme:

“Look, he was very poor last night. Very poor.” … Grunk adds that Vickery may have been listening to KB during the week and believed his own publicity. … He’s a lot better than that, retorts KB. … Uh-oh, one of the Carlton fans that KB smugly invited to ring back after the game has done just that. That would be caller, Tony.

Now listen very carefully to what I’m about to say to you. That you do this year-in year-out, KB, is that you laud up the Richmond supporters with false hope, and according to you pre-season NAB Cup form means everything. Now what I’m saying- (KB interjects with a rambling reference to? Yes, of course, Martin at the six minute mark when the foot/throat scenario was about to play out on the Blues) Good teams find a way to win. Even in that last quarter I felt confident (as did Seven’s Timothy Michael Watson) Carlton would get on top because of the midfield. And you know yourself, you’re a smart man, KB. You know the way the game is played nowadays you need two genuine running ruckman. O.K., now Vickery is just not up to it at this point in time. He gets knocked out of the way by the big gorillas of the game and your midfield just wasn’t up to it.

Grunk: Who will now have the better career, Kreuzer or Vickery? Because you made statements earlier in the week.
KB: Well obviously last night with Kreuzer being best on ground people are going to say Kreuzer. (No, people were convinced before Thursday night) I haven’t given up on Tyrone Vickery can be a very good player and I think he can probably sidle up along side, as I said this week during the week. He can sidle along side Krueuzer.

Grunk: This year?
KB: Well he should be able to this year. He should take a big step this year. That’s why he was so disappointing last night. Kreuzer took up the challenge last night for Carlton in the opening game of the season and he was fantastic. … Let’s judge as the season unfolds.

KB seems to have confused Tyrone Vickery with Seinfeld’s Lou Filerman. Sidling up to Matty Kreuzer isn’t what KB thought on Wednesday. Let’s revisit what KB said previously about No. 29 - The Sidler:
Now I want to throw this up – is Tyrone Vickery better than Matthew Kreuzer and will he prove to be a better player than Matthew Kreuzer? I think Matthew Kreuzer will be a tremendous player for Carlton, but I don’t think he’s going to be any better than Tyrone Vickery. I think Tyrone Vickery can cover him in every aspect of the game and he showed that last year. He kicked thirty-six goals last year, Tyrone Vickery. He was the biggest improver out of all the tall players - young players - in the competition. And I think he can match Kreuzer. So if Kreuzer is going to be number one I reckon he’s actually gonna be number two because Vickery will be in front of him.

Mensa Talkback Society caller, sounding like the incarnate of Eddie J. McGuire is concerned about the Yarran goal where “the ball was out by a foot, maybe a foot and a half and yet was allowed to go on.” He’s really concerned about something like that really getting away. WTF. So there you go, the ball was apparently 18 inches (45cm) completely over the line. And this statement was after he watched the replay at home. … Blues fans hammer the hapless KB relentlessly who dodges and weaves while expounding with nothing but waffle.

KB: Didn’t [Carlton] rusty in that first quarter?
Grunk: For thirty seconds!

Here’s a twist in proceedings with audio of the safari suit-wearing Kermit Bretheraton critiquing KB’s assessment of the Vickery/Kreuzer comparison that will not go down well:

Kermy: I’ll sum it up; be absolutely honest and not water it down. Vickery is a capable player who will be a roll player. He’ll be a positional player. You put him in there for your structure and ya hope he’s gonna play a really good game at some stage but other than that he’s gonna play the roll and do it well. Last night he was deplorable. I thought of forty-four men on the ground, he was number forty-four. He just wasn’t willing to compete and run to the contest. That was knowledge and that was workload; he wouldn’t go to it.

KB: [Tersley] Oh, that’s very good of [Kermit] to have a crack. I liked his words then when he said “let’s be honest.” Why doesn’t [Kermit] come out on Morning Glory and be honest and put up his hand and tell everyone how Hawthorn cheated the salary cap and won five premierships, and he struts around as a five-time Hawthorn premiership player knowing in his own mind, [Grunk], that they absolutely cheated the system and rorted the system. Why doesn’t he do that, [Grunk]? If he wants to be honest, why [has] he actually passed himself off as a five-time Hawthorn player knowing that they cheated the salary cap more than any other club in the competition?

Grunk: [solemnly] Just take a deep breath, KB.

Back to talkback and KB’s back to, yes, Martin at the six minute mark of the last quarter when Blues fans were allegedly so concerned. … Couple of points raised by the next Blues fan: a) Did Tyrone Vickery play last night? b) Thanks KB for geeing up all the feral Richmond supporters at the “G” every year (gate receipts shared with Blues) … KB responds with question as to, yep, how shaky was caller when Martin lined up for goal the last quarter? … Another query about Yarran being in or out of bounds and Grunk acknowledges after multiple looks it was a line-ball decision, which it was.

Caller condemns KB and media for jumping all over the NAB Cup win at Geelong. KB responds with claim that ninth and tenth at season’s end were playing on Thursday night. Thinks he’s nailed that prediction and he’ll be proven correct. KB may or may not be right about that but his Vickery vs. Matty Kreuzer debate is a dead set loser! … Finally Blues’ callers point out the many, many missed shots by Carlton during the game, which KB acknowledges before rant about good players nailing big moments in games, and, referencing Martin’s missed chance in the last quarter.:rolleyes: The trashing is relentless as another caller claims a copy of the Tigers’ NAB Cup win over Geelong has gone on sale at JB Hi-Fi. … It gets worse as Hawks’ fans give it to KB over the Hawks alleged salary cap cheating.
