In Victoria there's 5m people.

Lets assume on average people listen to the radio for 2 hours a day (even thats a stretch). So at any time 1 out of 12 people are listening. That's about 400,000 listening to a radio at the most average of time.

2% of 400,000 is 8,000 people on average are listening to SEN at anytime.

That does seem very very low. My maths may be off though.

A rating of 2.1 equates to how many people exactly?

Don't know but its pretty strange that all the shows get pretty much the same rating. Seems to only be .1 or .2 between the breakfast program and the Run Home which is in prime time and KB, Mark Doran and Beva's shows which are not in prime time slots. Wonder is people who listen to SEN have it on 24 hours a day?

The way they do the radio ratings is so flawed as to make it worthless.

The only people who have the time and patience to fill out radio ratings books are the unemployed, housewives and pensioners. Hence stations appealing to those audiences will always survey well.

From memory, Talk Sport in the UK rated terribly under the old system but once they went to an electronic means of surveying, its ratings almost doubled.

The ratings system is imperfect. Clearly, SEN has more listeners due to the footy. I can't imagine too many people would put faith in that system as the final say for ratings. the station is going well. Mark Fine is getting better and better.

Whats the show on at the moment? Francis Leach is hosting, don't know the other blokes. Its pretty average stuff. Can see what they're trying to do but they're not pulling it off.:thumbsd:

The Social Club is what you're after!

Much prefer Saturday Spotlight myself!

I don't think they do the ratings quite like that but i do believe that the radio ratings are flawed. Often the ratings go up and down like yo yo's. They often don't make any natural sense.

Basically i'm going to make a prediction that this week SENs ratings will go up at least 2 points.

Last survey SENs ratings went up only .1. Yet 3aw - a melbourne radio stalwart went down nearly 4% i think that next survey period sen will start getting at least half of those listeners as the flow on effect didn't occur in the ratings analyse in last survey.

The fluctuations are the one thing the radio system has over the TV one. Individual radio surveys don't say much but averaging them out gives a much better guide to what people are listening to than the TV system where boxes stay in the same houses pretty much forever. No matter how hard they try to have a representative sample, it just isn't going to happen.

silly question: how much power do program hosts have over what goes to air in their shows? reason i ask is that usually after the 9am news im listening to kb's rant and usually the first story is afl, or golf. however this morning schebbeci's on and his first story? F1.

at this stage i switched off, not a fan of F1, but nothing against those who love the sport.

hosts and producers sit down and discuss what they want to run. the host, being the man doing the talking, has the most say, no doubt KB would have run with a story on the Cats....schibechhi goes with F1.

Finey's in good form tonight. theres a thread about his show on the main board atm.

I cannot believe another radio station has not tried this before - get an opinionated bastard to share his opinions with other footy fans - the Jockocracy are a joke as far as saying anything with any bite. I am starting to really enjoy Finey - he is pretty democratic with the callers too - other than those whose opinions are unsustainable

schebbeci and his motor racing segments are a real turn off :thumbsd:

ian coen is hard to handle as the replacement on the morning glory. i don't mind richardson or harford but coen is too busy rambling off phone numbers and pumping up the sen brand. **** he is annoying :thumbsd:

Brett Phillips has to be allowed to keep going in charge of WSO :thumbsu:, it is like comparing Geelong or West Coast to Richmond the diff between BP and Schibeci.
He sounds like he knows any sport,he gets more intelligent callers,he sounds awake all the time and he does more interviews.
It should be Brett and then Luke or Franko on the sat /sun.
When you hear Brett saying he is filling in you keep thinking stay stay stay.
If he cant stay then at least get who ever organises BP's show to help Tony .

Come on SEN keep Brett going on

Did anyone hear Therresa ball her eyes out the other morning on Morning Glory? Was one of he funniest things I have ever heard.
Yes I heard that.

Wasn't sure if she was serious at first, but as the conversation went on it appeared as they she was genuinely destraught about her Tigers.

In all fairness to Tony Schubecki he has done the overnight slot for a long while now anybody doing that kinda of shift for a long period of time will always tell you it takes a lot out of you. I'm pretty sure when i listened to Tony a year back he sounded a little more awake and stuff.
I like Mark Franklin the best as opposed to Brett Phillips he always sounds ready to talk about sport more so than other WSO announcers. Brett Phillips is good to hear on air too though.

I'm unhappy that the ratings for SEN only went up a little bit. As i said before i thought they'd go up by maybe 2 points. It didn't eventuate. Good to see a rise at least and hopefully they continue.

I'm a huge Brett Phillips fan as I've stated before on this thread, and i too was disappointed for SEN re: their ratings, but i have also questioned the ratings system, which seems very dubious to me....in my work i am dealing with the public all day, and SEN comes into the conversation an amazing number of times ..... a good majority listen to SEN...they will go from strength to stength, i have no doubt whatsoever...to many good personalities and shows, plus footy, not to go places...keep up the good work SEN..your better than the lot of 'em!!

its not about tony being lazy he just doesnt have the knowledge that BP has

brett can talk about pretty much any sport and he will actually talk back to the caller rather than tonys stock standard short answers
