Maybe but all I'll be doing is Making something up with no facts to back it up and quite frankly would look like an idiot

Then it shouldn't be too difficult to come up with one at least as plausible as Portia's.

Whoa thems fighting words.

Do you have an alternative hypothesis?

Women seek attention from the emotional satisfaction fostered through genuine interpersonal relationships.

Men seek attention by trying to impress faceless strangers with photoshops, quips, gags and deep thinking such as "BUTCHER SUX LOL".

OMG, all of my Facebook friends are men!

You forgot "borderline homo-erotic hero worship".

The number of women posters dropped across 2007-2012 as we were in our period of shit. Maybe men bond more over misery through a forum like this (as we do a bad job of sharing emotions in the real world), but perhaps that at times sardonic dark humour that got us through wasn't to their tastes?

The tone of debate now compared to the early / mid 2000's I don't see a lot of difference, except that due to exposure to many fine football minds like Macca19, tribey, missionpossible and yes Portia, along with more information direct from the club, theres less of the 'kick it long', 'man up' level of discussion and more in depth discussion of all aspects of football at a non-trivial level (yes the trivial still is here, but a lot less then the 'good old days' IMO).

I think tribey did better. :P

If you're looking to make change here, you're gonna have a bad time doing it by naming and shaming people. This is something you should be raising with mods or by using the report button to deal with individual comments made by posters.

I agree that the comments you have highlighted for your argument are juvenile and of a circle-jerk nature. But...big deal. Contact a mod, state your case, report a post or poster or use the ignore button.

If you're looking for a cultural shift on here then discuss that with mods too. Why don't we have a 'Serious' tag for threads where only on topic things can be discussed and tolerated. There needs to be a place for everyone on here and the mods should be listening to you if you feel you're being marginalized. We have rules on here that mean you can't vilify people based on race, creed, sexuality, religion and gender. So the question is, are the comments you are referring to vilifying women? I don't know, I'm not qualified to make that call.

But calling out people in a thread is kind of confrontational and likely to cause divide. Just saying.

That toxic mindset in regards to sexism is the reason you're a part of the problem, not the solution.

but what am I going to achieve by doing that? People want facts not assumptions. I'm not going to go out and speak for a group of people about something that I'm not even sure they're taking issue with or don't know whether that's their problem or not. That's just bizzare IMO.

So your solution for people feeling offended is to be offensive to someone who isn't posting anything offensive. Yes, that will inspire and work wonders.

A PAFC to bigfooty demography would be interesting yet sad reading. i do recall women posters being run-off the board much more than say male posters who generally only get that attention when they are continually negative towards the/a club/player.

Not disagreeing but do you have examples?

Was one earlier the year that despite posting continually about football most posters just commented on her profile pic and badgered her about basically everything. I temporarily forgot her profile name but it's a great example.

No, people don't want facts, facts are actually very mundane things. People want well thought out arguments. And people expect those challenging said arguments to attempt to do so with other well thought out arguments.

I remember the one. Others from memory I_love_the_hoff, Koulagirl*. Uhmm...

So here's why you're wrong.

1. If all I do is report posts, then all that happens is that those individuals get a note saying that a post is edited, and typically no one else even notices anything has happened. As I've demonstrated, this problem is not restricted to one of two posters, its across a big chunk.

2. A `serious' tag address none of the concerns I have expressed.

3. Some of the comments are vilifying, but the main problem here is that the tone of this board is actively hostile to women, in ways I demonstrated on the AFL Women's team thread and talked about in the OP. It is very easy to make a hostile area without actively vilifying anyone, and that is what has happened.

4. Calling people out in a thread absolutely is confrontational and likely to cause a divide, which is exactly what is needed, because if there is no public discussion then the assumption any neutral party would make is that everyone is happy with the status quo.

5. Anyone who is going to continue or increase their degree of discriminatory rubbish on this board because of being called out needs to be called out, because the more they whinge, the more they will get kick back themselves.

6. If you don't make a visible, public change, then on something like this you're not only unlikely to succesfully make a change, but you're not demonstrating to others that a change is being made.

TL;DR
* If you get more hostile after being called out, you'll earn an infraction and eventually get banned.
* If you don't modify your behaviour you'll keep getting called out, and people will know you're a shit.
* If you become wary of being called out and modify your behaviour as a result, the board improves.

Win win win.

Thats one and I'm assuming she clearly stated this was the reason she stopped posting?

Seriously?

I'm almost certain the latter was actively run out of town, the former copped a shitload of heat for her staunch pro-Justin defences but generally gave as good as she got.

Can anyone remember this thread?
It lasted about 10 minutes.
