No they don't have any planning laws that override state laws.I'm not sure on the laws but is it possible for the federal government to override state government on the stadium.?

No they don't have any planning laws that override state laws.
But they do have $240m contribution that they can control, that they can say will only pony up if xyz happens.
When the northern half of MCG was redeveloped between 2002-06 for the Commonwealth Games the feds were going to make a $70m contribution to the $434m cost, but because Grollo signed a work place agreement with CFMEU, that Johnny Howard and his government mates didn't like, they pulled the pin on the $70m contribution, which I think Bracks replaced and a gave a bit more as well. $90m figure comes to mind.

'Cannot turn back': Tasmanian government responds to scathing Hobart stadium report
The state government response to last month's scathing report from the planning commission says that while "change can be challenging", the "dream of a Tasmanian team representing our state in the AFL and AFLW is now within reach — we cannot turn back".www.abc.net.au
I still don't understand why the TPC had any say at all on the economics of the project. That's not the role of a planning commission as economic viability is not a planning concern.By state political reporter Lucy MacDonald

she's been so anti stadium since day 1
Surely it will be approved, otherwise, what developer would want to come to Tasmania if this is the reaction?![]()
Macquarie Point stadium decision set for December as key dates locked in
MPs and MLCs will soon face a yes-or-no decision on an order…pulsetasmania.com.au
I had someone recently tell me they wouldn't get the stadium built for any less that $2 billion. I would be interested to know what people's opinions are on this,I personally struggle to see a 23,000 seat stadium costing that much although I know the roof is expected to cost over $200 million alone.
this would set up a conflict re playing surface in the event cricket go all in on the venueThe CEO of football Tasmania has today come out on Sen Tasmania saying a possible A league team will now be based at Mac Point. He also said the ground could also host Socceroos and Matilda games.
... which in turn could pressure cricket to finally commit to go all in on the venue now, instead of its present dithering, equivocating half-in, half-out stance ... or they may risk missing out altogether in favour of an A-League team, and as the years roll by, be stuck with an increasingly isolated and antiquated Bellerive Oval.this would set up a conflict re playing surface in the event cricket go all in on the venue
In Australia we elect officials to do that for us so we don't have to have a referendum on every single issue and policy. If this went to a vote to the public what do you think their response will be? If the people dont want it then no stadium should happen.
Feel this issue should be up to the peopleIn Australia we elect officials to do that for us so we don't have to have a referendum on every single issue and policy.
This guy isn't some government lackie either. He's well credentialled based on article in The Mercury (former European business planning manager for American Airlines).Interesting findings by the Coordinator-General John Perry, who says "Macquarie Point stadium would be an economic boon for Tasmania"
And the people spoke - at the July 19th election, at which the stadium was very much a hot issue.Feel this issue should be up to the people
And in theory those officials are more expert or listen to expert with processes in place to get that information to the officials rather than the general public. In Australia we elect officials to do that for us so we don't have to have a referendum on every single issue and policy.
