Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

Obviously .

Go back and read the replies - it's all there .

Anderson says the interchange rules will be reviewed at the end of the season.

"We will monitor closely the effects on congestion, injury rates and fairness to see how it measures up against the trends that were developing," he said.

"We are as confident as we can be that the new interchange system should prevent each of those trends heading further in the wrong direction.

If it does not prevent more injuries it is a failure. So far it has failed.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

They are talking about soft tissue injuries, not collisions. How would changing the interchange rules affect the amount of collisions?

essentially they are saying that there was, in regards to the increase of the rate of injuries, a trend happening, and they want to prevent that trend. At no stage did they say that a sub would stop all injuries from ever happening, for that would plainly be a ridiculous statement.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

If they actually cared about player welfare they would actually increase the bench rather then diminish it.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

Essentially, all players going into half time would be more tired (than 4 on bench), so if you're the team down by a bit at half time, or get the injury, it's going to be a hard slog back. The other team can take it easier for a period of time, then turn it on.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

I called BS on this rule months ago

... you are agreeing with the OP?

If they actually cared about player welfare they would actually increase the bench rather then diminish it.

So, we end with a bench of how many? Eight? Fifteen?

Point is, players can't run as hard for as long if they are fatigued, and as a bonus, the game opens up.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

It is not a massive failure but I agree that it can be better.

Basically we need a capped interchange to reduce congestion, a bigger bench for reduced fatigue/injury and no subs for fairness.

Four bench-players, a cap of 120 changes per match and no substitutes will work IMO.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

So far all this rule has resulted in is actual fit players stuck as a sub while injured players sit out of the game taking up an interchange.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

Porps, Brown, Staker, Palmer, Beams. They're dropping like flies.

Good to see the 3-man bench is reducing injury rates.

Are you really that stupid?

I mean, really?

Agree with this, with the only change is a further reduction in interchanges. Maybe.

To me this makes total sense.

Re: Sub-rule: A massive failure already

AFL notices injury rates increasing.

Makes change to the rules to stop this.

Doesn't work.

Rule = Fail

Oh, so you aren't stupid, you merely have access to a time machine. My mistake.

Please demonstrate one game where this has happened.

And if it did happen, that's the coaches fault for using his sub early.

Thursday night, and Brisbane tonight had players who were injured subbed off for another player, but were then fit enough to come back later while other players sustained even worse injuries but could no longer be subbed off.

Waite had concussion. Under the concussion rule he wouldn't have been allowed back on even if he wasn't subbed off.

And Beams was injured.
