I have no voice this morning and had a restless nights sleep. I'm proud to be part of a fanatical crowd at its loudest. 1-2 individual morons can not take away from the amazing atmosphere last night. We were meek against Sydney but brought the passion last night, we were loud and the freo chant was deafening. To the idiot that shaped to hit Isaac Smith and the criminal that hit that poor lady, shame on you. The rest of us won't be tainted by a few individuals.
I digress...
Last night we saw the end of an era (McPharlin, +/- Pav) but not the end of Fremantle.
5 of our players made the AA squad this year:
David Mundy (30 y.o.)
Garrick Ibbotson (27 y.o.)
Stephen Hill (25 y.o.)
Nathan Fyfe (24 y.o.)
Lachie Neale (22 y.o.)
4/5 of that group aren't nearing the end of their career. We have a core midfield group that win their fair share of clearances. We need to just tidy up our bookends which can happen a lot easier than some people think.
From ashes the phoenix rises. I recall Buckley retiring and Collingwood winning a flag shortly after. Its not a unique story. We need look no further than across the road. Sometimes the older players set the example and the reality of football mortality dawns home with the younger brigade and they step up.
Lyon mentioned last night we don't have a spare million in the cap to get a key forward. Well with some of the departures, we actually might. The sad thought of our great champs retiring might be a new dawn.
Fremantle forever!
