The Age - McPhee eyes leadership role at Freo

"It will be best to adjust back to playing half-back ... I think that's where I've played my best football ... and once I've got that then it would probably allow me to move up the ground and settle in and move in with the next midfielding group."

"It's certainly a very exciting group ... that's the reason why I came back ..."

The Age - McPhee eyes leadership role at Freo

I'm loving this. I'm pretty sure his stated reason for moving was that he would be able to play better footy if he was allowed to consistently play in his preferred role - as a midfielder. And wasn't there talk of guaranteed starts in the midfield?

Who would have ever thought that Freo would use him as a versatile KPP rather than as a mid? So strange!

Shades of Teddy Richards. Wanted to play forward, Sheeds thought he was a back, moved to Sydney to play forward, Roos plays him as a back. Strange!

I'm feeling that the club's decision not to offer him 3 years is being more and more vindicated by the day.

P.S. Not sure if y'all noticed, but I'm still a tad bitter about not getting something for old butter-fingers in trade week.

McPhee wants to be in a leadership group?? Yeah, he shows real leadership leaving a club

The Age - McPhee Article

But the 27-year-old, who underwent shoulder surgery over the summer, admits he has failed to fire during the pre-season, with his fumbling efforts resulting in numerous turnovers.

Haha, 'fumbling efforts'. That's certainly not like Adam at all, they've named the wrong guy surely.

He is a complete muppet and will be better suited at Fremantle. Nobody has lost any sleep at EFC since he decided to leave - we'll be a better unit without him (will never forget how he nearly cost us a spot in the finals with his comedy of errors right throughout the Round 22 game against Hawtthorn last year). He'll further underline and compliment Fremantle's total ineptness and softness. More worried about his hair and appearance than the fortunes of his "team", not that the word probably enters his obviously limited vocabulary.

The club made the absolute right decision to offload Lovett and no doubt McPhee as well.

Looking forward to Round 2.

What a laugh.

McPhee's attempts to play midfield can be summed up with one GIF:

haha the midfield experiment is over after 3 pre season games. :D

Mark Harvey MAGIC.

always sunny reference in the thread title? the nightman himself would be less embarassing than mcphee in a midfield role

I can't stop looking at that gif Colin, although a few questions.

Do you think he lost his nipple?
Why is he smiling??!

I really cant see him in that midfield. Haselby, Palmer, Hill, Crowley, Ibbotson, Morabito, Mundy, Schammer then with Duffield, Suban, Broughton Rotating through. Also with the younger guys like Walters, De Boer, Ruffles. Not saying that midfield is too good for him, but I think that Freo will prefer to play those players in the midfield rather than McPhee to develop the young guys and just to get experience.

LOL keep up the McFumbles in the midfield gifs.

Freo will be must watch this year with McCrap and Kepler in the one team. Comedy capers.

oh how I laffed when I read that this morning. God I don't miss him. Complete & utter spud. I'm so glad I don't have to hold my breath every time old Skeletor attempts a dinky little chip kick out of the back pocket after wasting every other option with his indecision

Comical watching him running arround in the midfield.
Most people are probably pretty happy that he is gone. But the way he left
he shafted his club and his mates.. Enjoy the rest of your sh*tbag career adam. Thanks for the fumbles.

Always liked McPhee at Essendon. Had a big heart and always worked hard for the team.

Will be missed despite what people think.

I'm going to assume that's the collision with Schammer, which was brutal.

McPhee had his moments, and ANZAC Day 2009 was one of them; he was pivotal in us winning when Hille went down and Ryder had to move from CHB to the Ruck.

If you had a ratio of outstanding, terrible, OK games, it'd probably look like this: 1:2:3.

He was a solid player most of the time, however the way in which he walked out on the club left a sour taste in my mouth. Football is a business and he needs to look after his own family to a certain extent; I can deal with that. However waiting until after trade week was taking the "looking out for numero uno" mantra one step further. The prick at the very least could've landed us a pick in the 30s, getting us an Alan Christensen.

For that reason I don't look at him with any fondness whatsoever. I won't boo him, as I think it's childish, but I sure as hell will enjoy seeing him fail as a Docker.

Thanks for the feedback. ;)

He probably did lose his nipple, he was grinding the cement for a few metres.
He is smiling because he's thinking about his doctor's bills, surely. That would be pretty funny to think about wouldn't it?! :p

Maybe if he was fair to us......

He won us at the very least that game.

I'm not happy with how he left, but the pretty boy stuff grates. He was as tough as nails.

Have a look at the replay of the rnd 22 fight with hawthorn. Mcphee is hovering around the pack with Lovett both of them squibbing it.

No doubt in the shorterm he will be missed. Strong marking and big bodied.
His fumbles are overstated sometimes.

Would have no problem with mcphee leaving if we got a 2nd or even 3rd round pick for him. But he deliberatly burnt the club that has been looking after him for years. I wonder when the deal with Freo was made?
They way it panned out I am pretty sure it would have happened before trade week.

The midfield rubbish... No one really bought that. He is big clumsy and slow and the nab games this year showed that. If he plays there for Freo then they have shot themselves in the foot.

Straight back to HBF for him.

Be fair to him.

There's no doubt that his good games were brilliant, it's the fact that they were coming only once a month. Never questioned his hardness or his commitment - it was his inconsistency which ruled out a three year deal.

What if 1:2:3 -> 1:4:2 (good:bad:OK) over the next three years? A real possibility IMO. Then he wouldn't even be in the best 22. You have to be pretty confident that a player will be in the 22 if you are contracting him.

Haven't noticed anyone popping up with the username keps2smokey.
