Happy with that... Would have kept slats in the team tho.

Yeah dunno why he got dropped, I would have kept Weshy for Bolt's too, I just thought he was slowly getting there, but I guess they know more than me :o

Alright Mr. Johns - TIME TO DELIVER BIG BOY!!! (just pray it doesn't rain)

Interesting. In his post match press conference he put big wraps on Slattery for the future and said Peverill came in and sort of got back to his form of past years.

welsh getting dropped infront of some other players is a bit disappointing but he has been in a RUT

slattery should not of been dropped.

You would drop MJ before Slats & Welshy
Good to see the direction where heading too by dropping Slats (youth ???), and I see no sign of Dyson anywhere either. We do have Johns and Laycock as the youngies, but im all for youth no matter how many there are to play
then again how fit are some of these players coming in, i reckon Welshy and Slats will still play

I don't think Johns will play.
I reckon Slattery will take his place.

Although I don't know if there is a match-up for Henry and Richmond are short down back.

I think it's safe to say, predicting selection is near on impossible at EFC.

Sheeds said Johns wouldn't be playing, interesting...

there are rumours going around that Monfries could be a little sore...

Slats could come in for him...

I'm surprised to see Johns named given what sheedy has said. However I'd like to see him play, so hopefully he'll run out on sat. we'll have to see what happens at training tomorrow I guess....

I'm ultra confident for some reason and that's strange as I'm normally very negative, in fact, I haven't tipped us all season! Saturday night will be a first.

If that's the case then i'm very happy with selection.

Would like to see Johns get a few games at Bendigo first, though i must admit with all the hype around him it creates a bit more interest if he plays

Laycock > Ryder
Campo > Pev
Rioli > Welsh

Bit simplistic because Campo and Rioli play different roles to the other two. I guess with Johnson and Brown out we don't need to go overboard with tagging so that would count against Pev and Welsh getting a game.

I was thinking about that today. I guess Deledio is one player that could really hurt us, the other Tuck. And of course Bowden off half-back.

McVeigh to Deledio, Watson might go with Tuck ala Scott West.
Not sure how we will try and stop Bowden, I presume he'll go to Lucas.

Agree with Watson on Tuck. I'd put Heff on Deledio. McVeigh maybe on Krakeour as we seem to be lacking guys who can play on small forwards and he can also go with him in the midfield.

Ha for some reason i was thinking of Patrick Bowden. He'll be a problem if our disposal going forward is slow and/or inaccurate. Just got to back our guys to hit targets instead of trying anything too fancy imo.

Looking at match ups and the number of quality players in each side, there is no reason why we shouldn't smash this side. Our revamped midfield isn't fantastic, but I think it is better then Richmonds, although, Tuck, Delidio and co aren't terrible. But it is a little thin in terms of rotations.

Our backline should be able to contain their forward, other Richo is a danger.

If johns, rioli, Lucas, Hird, Monfries and lovett line up in the forward line that is a reasonably impressive forward line that should be able to get on top of their backline...

We'll see what happens on sat, but if we lose this then it is not a good sign for Essendon FC.

It would be unfair to Johns, to pick him and have him not play. He has a heap of pressure from the fans after all his hype and finally he gets named and doesn't play. I think it would just place more pressure on him.
Laycock seems logical for Ryder. Slat's could be a bit unlucky. Pev was a no brainer. And although I've been calling for Welsh, Solomon and MJ to be dumped, which realistically wasn't going to happen, I'm glad at least one of them has gone. Places the other two in the gun and we'll see if they can respond.

Unfair, unless they've told him about the plan to name him and maybe put Richmond off a little

I think dropping Welsh and Slattery was a bit harsh. I think there have been a few players who were probably worse than those two. I think Pev was treated a bit harshly too.

I think a better change would have been Solomon out for Slattery and Winderlich out for Peverill.

I like Johns and Laycock in up forward. Give the forward line a better structure and gives the players coming up the ground a focal point in the forward 50, as Lloyd would normal do.

Dropping Ryder will do the kid the world of good. Give him a whole game at Bendigo and see how he goes. Had a taste of the big time, now time to go back and work on his skills and to learn the game a bit more.

Who knows why, he did play well against them in Mildura, I'm guessing he's trying to put them off, but who :D:Ding knows

So dropping Welsh and Peverill is harsh, but dropping Winderlich wouldn't be?

I guess the only way to quantify that statement is to say Welsh and Peverill have proven they can play AFL footy- Winderlich hasnt. Saying that I think it is good they are giving Winderlich an opportunity to prove himself one way or another. The only reason you would play Bolton would be to play on Bowden as a offensive tagger and try and take him out of the play- preferably Row 15If we lose this week our season is just about dead and playing players such as Bolton in front of Slattery, Reynolds and co would only illustrate that Sheedy is more concerned with his winning ratio rather than the long term future of our playing list.

Thanks foj1.... couldn't have put it better myself.

Just thought that Welsh was hard done by in the Hawks game as he wasn't give much game time, and same goes for Pev. They have proven they can play.

I think Winderlich has been given plenty of tme to prove himself, but just doesn't seem up to AFL standard. I must admit though, his game against the Hawks was definitely the best I have seen him play.

And I think Slattery has been the one player from the group over young players who has reallty stepped up, with Monfries the next best, and I thimk it may have a slightly negative affect on him being dropped. Although, Sheedy might just be looking at the matchups in the back half against the tigers and he doesn't fit.

Its Just my 2 cents worth.....

They've both proved that they are in shocking form, Pev and Welsh both. Winderlich played better than them last week imho. Welsh has been given 5 weeks to turn it around, that's his senior player grace period.
