chaplin is a liability at the moment, giving away frees by scragging, fumbly, lacking urgency and intensity and even when running at half pace is butchering the ball. astbury is good one on one so hes redundant as 3rd man up over the big power forward, so send him back to the ressies and play him at chb till he finds some form i say
Astbury butchers the ball too. Arguably, he was worse than Chappy yesterday with his disposal. Defensively though, Astbury is very very good.

Chaplin looks good when he peels off and plays lose although his disposal this year has dropped a couple of notches - difference between his good and bad has been massive.
Depending on match-ups, IMO he and Batchelor wax in and out... Rance showed yesterday that despite his own 'Rance' moments, he glues the back half together & Astbury is a sold reliable defender now.

I still have hope that Batchelor can become a regular - needs some sort of a decent run at it though.

Chaplin needs to find form, composure and grunt. Which he has shown in patches. Otherwise it's time to either persist with Grimes or elevate Darrou who's doing a great job in the VFL and give him a chance.

Although Morris had a great last quarter yesterday, the same can be asked of him, or he could find himself out in favour of Matt Dea.

He's really struggling.
Nothing affects kicking more than a crook knee.
But I don't understand how anyone can question him being a leader?
How the **** would anyone know what his leadership is like?

Running through Motlop when he wasn't looking cost us a goal on the rebound and probably got him a week on the sidelines.

I'm not against him being dropped, just find it funny people whinge that he's in the leadership group.

I take it you didn't see the 'options' presenting down the field.... Enright and 2 other cats versus no-one....

He's definitely down on form and confidence. He played his best footy last year as a loose man during large parts of games, not locking down on a forward. He hasn't played that role this year for the most part and it is Vlas doing it now.

Drop him? Who for? Grimes - just got dropped. Darrou I hear people say.... can't remember his worth at AFL level...oh yeah he's yet to play so it's unfair on him to suggest his output would be up to someone coming off a top 5 in the b'n'f. Batch? Terrible against anyone who remotely has size. Short of options for the moment.

I think Chappy has credits in the bank but perhaps tinkering with his role might help... or perhaps just not worrying about being a leader so much and just playing....
I saw the options and all of them were ok IF he kept on running at full speed and not just cruising. He could have waited for a lead or even kicked it towards the pocket for a throw in. Either way he refused to run and work hard.

Well how often have we traded? We collectively got Rodan, Schulz, White for nothing much because you didn't want them. Likewise you with Thomas and Chaplin because Thommo was delisted and we didn't buy into Chaplin's free agency move. I can't recall a negotiated trade between us although I'm sure there have been some.
Shulzt was the only trade I think.

It is going to be a blessing in disguise IMO. Chaplin needs a 2 week rest. It allows us to try another defender like batch and see if he cant do an Astbury. It would be good for Chaplin if he knew he had real pressure on his spot

Disagree with this. Dave has turned the ball over under heavy pressure at times but has been solid most of the time. When he gets more fitness under him ( as in full preseasons) he reaction time and the confidence to pull the trigger will get better, but the foundation is there. Chappy chops it up under no pressure and cant even see the man on the mark as the interceptor.

Astbury turned the ball over under no pressure several times yesterday.

I think he simply didn't see the ball until late which means his vision isn't great. Unless there was a player behind to get the ball, which then I can understand providing a pathway, but I don't think there was. It was a free anyway(before the hit in the pack), so they had the ball.

Thought astbury had an off day disposal wise yesterday, usually a very decent user. but one pretty much all the 1v1's. no need to stress here.

At games you can see Rance leading and organizing the back line. You don't see Chaplin doing that. You only ever see him abusing players when we concede a goal. I don't call that leadership personally. It's little wonder out back line went from shit to good when Rance came back.

Yeah I understand but there is much more to leadership that we don't see.

This my biggest concern but he just coasts and doesn't want to run as fast as he can. lazy and should get a rocket. All our players do this apart from Rance and lids.
This is why I think he should be dropped. He's coasting. Twice he ran hard yesterday and it would be the first 2 times this year. Form is temporary and he will get that back. But soft, lazy efforts shouldn't be tolerated. Unfortunately they are.

His leadership qualities are probably seen off-field. Comes across as a good spokesperson for the the club, and a polished media performer.

Definitely. The other thing is his soft, half-arsed efforts need to stop. Not much we can do about that though seems he wasn't doing it last year. But I'd be removing him from that group next year if he keeps it up.
