Back to the important topic...

While this has always been one of the worst things in the world, I've recently become slightly torn on the subject. On the one hand having to dig out your soggy chips from under a schnitzel is awful, if places served the chips next to the schnitzel you'd get WAY less chips due to the lack of space. Schnitzels are huge (if it's a good pub/cafe/restaurant) and along with the salad it doesn't leave much room left on the plate for chips.

So the choice is more chips some soggy vs less chips none soggy.

And while we're talking schnitzels... IT'S A ******* PARMY! NOT A PARMA!
Get the fekking salad off the plate. Salad should always be an optional extra.

I wonder what Sanderson was thinking with his season opener address. Going on about this year having parallels to 1997, saying we would only lose a couple of games this year and basically insinuating that we would win the premiership.

How the **** could he get it so wrong? How can you not know how crap your players are playing?

Has Parallels to Craigy doing the same thing

I just did the 2013 AFL ladder predictor and had us finishing 13th with 7 wins.

Speaking of ladders and such, why isn't Port copping the same "soft draw" bullshit that we copped all last year? They play GC and GWS twice, yet all you hear from the media is how much they've improved, how they're the real deal etc. Their draw is just as "soft" as ours was last year.

Don't forget you played us twice.

Hi,

Just want to preface that I am a port supporter, so read into that what you will; however, after last season I found myself actually enjoying the style of play that Adelaide were bringing to the field, especially when I found it extremely hard to watch my own team!

I would create a new thread; but as I haven't yet made 5 posts (even though my account has been on here for ages!) and thus can't create a new one. This seemed like the best thread to post to.

In any case, I thought that I would post here just to make a few points about Adelaide, and to have some good honest discussion about their current problems and what can be done to fix them. So, here goes:

1) There is a culture issue with some of the players
From watching all of the Adelaide games this season, I have been trying to work out a better way of wording this rather than 'culture' because that is a touchy word between Port and Adelaide supporters; so apologies in advance for my choice of words. Something that I really liked last year about Adelaide was their ability to really to really go hard and fair at the ball; players like Dangerfield were leading the way in putting their head down and simply thinking about nothing but the footy. This year, it seems that this is the exception, rather than the rule. I will give and example.

http://www.afl.com.au/video/featured-programs/match-review-panel - 1:17 of the round 4 match (showdown). Bernie Vince came in really late for the contest. Yes, he did get the ball first, but he was watching the man the entire way. This act sort of 'inspired' port to go at the ball harder, and win the contest. Contrast this to this weeks game of West Coast and Port. I forget the player (Darren Glass?), but there was a very hard knock on Paul Stewart (no video up yet that I could find). Now, Glass got reported for that, but there was no malicious intent whatsoever (and really should not have been reported for that); and the Port players were clearly ruffled because it was a good, clean hit, and it put the 'footsteps' in the back of the players minds. This is the sort of thing the crows have lacked this year; going in hard at the ball and putting fear in the opposition, rather than playing unfairly (again, for want of a better word). This is the thing that I loved about watching Adelaide last year - they weren't about going in for the cheap shot wherever (ala Nigel Smart), and really respected the opposition in every match; not nearly so much this year. The quality and skill of the Adelaide players is exceptional - there is a mindset issue going on.

Now, I am not sure how you guys can fix this appart from Sanderson simply giving everyone a rocket at training or even dropping players that simply don't respect the game enough. This 'culture issue' is increasing evident through the contested possession numbers that your boys have put up over the last couple of weeks.

2) Disposal Efficiency
This is something that has taken a huge step back from last year. The statistics may not seem as bad as they are, but the fact is that your best players and shanking the ball at times when they really should be hitting easy targets. It is almost as if the underdog moniker suited the psyche of the players much more so than being favorites. The fact is, Adelaide have 4 or more players that should really be in contention for All Australian status; however, the ability for Adelaide to consistently miss targets is really not becoming of that fact; and unlike teams such as WCE, there really is no excuse from injuries.

3) As good a coach as Brenton Sanderson, it seems like other coaches have broken his game plan
Yes, I really think that Sanderson is really one of the elite coaches in the competition. The turnaround that Adelaide have had over the last year has been enormous. Having said that, it really appears that teams have been doing their homework on the strategies that Sanderson has implemented. I think it was Tim Ginever on SEN sports who were saying that Jacob's ruck work is as good as ever, but opposition teams have worked out the 3 or 4 ways that Jacob's taps the ball and to which players; this gives clearances to opposition midfields that they really shouldn't have been getting. Again, the Adelaide midfield should really but up there in the top 3 or 4 in the competition; right now they don't look like a top eight-to-ten midfield.

Now, I think Sanderson is a good enough coach to implement new strategies - and, lets not forget that the loss of Tippet has really meant that the forward structure has changed dramatically, while the strategy about going into the forward half has remained unchanged from last year. While Tippet was hardly the most skilled footballer in the Adelaide team, he was always willing to contest the hard ball fairly. Even if he did not take a mark, he always 'dropped' the ball in advantageous areas for the likes of Slone and Dangerfield to crumb. Jenkin's is not (yet?) the class act that Tippet was and is.

What do you guys think? Do I just seem like some crazed Port supporter (I really have tried to be as impartial as possible), or do you think that my points are relevant? I really want to see this Adelaide team firing; last year they were exciting to watch, this year not so much.

Not to intrude on this forum of yours; but every single game that I have watched / attended, the first thing that anybody says is that "this is the first real test" etc. I dont think anyone is under any illusions of the soft draw that Port has had so far, however they did "beat" WCE, and were clearly the better side against Adelaide (when Adelaide really should have had the class to beat PA by 5 goals)

Agree with most of your post except the bolded bit. Port have more talent than the AFC thanks to those top 8 draft picks and some sound trading.

With all due respect, your real test won't come until round 1 next year. If your club has actually turned it around and is now heading in a northerly direction, your first real test won't come against Collingwood or Essendon but will come after a per season when the supporters have slapped the players on the back, they ave received the accolades over summer for being a great side but weather they have the right attitude to continue to work as hard and do the little things that it takes to win.

Not quite true Alex, if they made the GF this year and won who gives a stuff about next year. But this won't happen.
