shoot me down in flames as well but good riddance to it. The place was feral and full of ferals. It was OK straight after work on a Friday etc but much after 8pm it was get out quick!!

Sorry just how I feel.

BUT

wraps to the bar staff etc etc, no serious injuries and everyone out safe bar a few smok inhallations. Fantastic effort. I have seen how packed that place can be so it is testament to the staff that this is not a human tragedy as well as a landmark etc etc.

Personal feelings aside I hope they do rebuild it rather than a developer stick another high rise there. It is a landmark in Brisbane as much as the Breaky Creek etc.

The best thing about the Victory was that it was (to the best of my knowledge) the only pub in the city centre that had a beer garden. When you ducked out for a beer at lunchtime (only rarely!), it was far nicer to sit outside than to simply look at 4 different walls.

I think the majority of the problem is unable to be seen with regards to the structural damage. With the cellar/basement being wiped out the foundations are pretty shot.

My drinking days are long gone, but sad to see an iconic Brissie Pub bite the dust. Thankfully everybody evacuated quickly.

My most vivid memories are turning up on a Thursday or Friday( if i wasn't working) as a young lad at 10am for an all day-all night drinking session.
Myself and a mate used to start there at 10am, a few schooners, a few bets at the pub tab. Then move on to Mary st, Transformers, City Rower etc at 6-7 pm. My liver was in quite a bad state by the 2am the next morning.:D

Im too old for that shyte now, thankfully:p

I actually had my drink spiked at the Victory years ago. I had parked my car on a City street and had 2 XXXX Gold beers as I was intending to drive home. The next thing I remember was a mate picking me up out of a nearby garden a few hours later. The last thing I can recall is this weirdo couple trying to talk to me at the pub - think Magda Szubanski and Peter Moon's swinger characters from Fast Forward. To this day, I think I was lucky not to be chained up in some suburban dungeon.

Top that story Chez!
