Interesting that Cripps Smith Johnson and Walsh all played together in WAU18 team.
In 2013 they all made WAU18 team of year, Smith and Walsh as 16yrs.
One thing that all those boys all have in spades is hardness at the footy.
Johnson has been compared with a slightly shorter Jack darling and we've all heard the Pickett
comparisons for smith.
Cripps and Smith actually made the same AA team in 2013.
It's great that all these WA kids have already played state footy together.
Our recruiters have obviously kept a very close eye on the WAFL and WA squads.

I agree. I think we should plant our senior players in the feeder leagues to ensure that they understand the Carlton way.

Eg. Jamo can have a stint in the WAFL in case there are any young defenders coming through that we are looking at.

2011: West Perth's Brad Hill (2 premierships) instead of Bootsie.
I'm not sure Brad Hill would have had much impact at Carlton. The strength of the Hawks masks the softness of Hill. I would go as far as suggesting he would be running around in the VFL if we had recruited him.

That may or may not have been the case as we'll never know but as you and I have said here 100 times over..............our player development was pathetic.

We're down to the last of the softies and that's not to say we'll get it right every time from here on in, but we have learned and acted accordingly.

It looks like all our WA kids could get a run in the first NAB cup game.
Might be the first time they all played together since 2013 U18 champs.
Really excited to see how they go.
Cripps is the most advanced.
Smith could really come in and have an impact if the reports re if fitness are true.
Johnson and Walsh were always going to take time to develop.
Both are likely prospects and could play a role for in the team.

Ross Parker, gun recruiter with fantastic contacts around the WA clubs and intimate knowledge of the players. Great bloke and the club respects his judgement.
I know Ross pretty well and you are right he is a top bloke, he lives close by and played junior footy with his son.

Always willing to have a chat all things Carlton without divulging too many details. I am still waiting for him to put my name forward to be drafted as personally I still think the club could do with a 35yo key forward with dodgy knees and hammies who prefers a beer instead of a powerade straight after a game.

Is that Ross Parker the ultra marathon guy ho played with Swan Districts in the '70's and (more importantly) Wanneroo in the Sunday league?

Pretty sure it is, I would always see him out running along marmion avenue near his place in Craigie, then it became a bit of a shuffle and now its just a walk. Always has his Carlton jacket and hat on.

Could listen to this sort of talk all day, Harks. :thumbsu:

You just described my progression from early 20s to early 30s...

Lucas, what a superstar he turned out to be...

Prefer to think of Kenny Hunter, Syd Jackson, The Buzz, Mike Fitzpatrick and Christopher Yarran as our WA success stories :)

Its incredible to think so many of our club legends were foreign legion products (non Victorians) from the WAFL and SANFL and even Jezza was from ACT and Tony Lynn from Queensland .. :)

Watched the AIS vs Collingwood res. Not bad viewing for a Carlton supporter.
Walsh and Smith were two of the better players for AIS.
Smith laid a couple of ripper tackles. You could even hear the crowd react.
Even when Walsh laid tackles they really stuck.
Walsh was played in the center square. Smith also spends plenty of time in the center square with Brayshaw Heeney and doesn't look out of place.

Don't know how Clem got to pick 61.. In his bottom age year he was tracking as a possible top 10 pick.
In his draft year he was consistently rated in the top 25 draft prospect.
Had an up and down champs. Played a ripper of a game vs Vic Country.
Importantly he played very well for AIS vs Collingwoods 2's standing up in the midfield.

Then he had a really strange combine. There were reports that his fitness levels were almost offensive
for someone who had been in the AIS academy.
Then he pops up and wins the agility test  and place in the top 5 in the kicking test.

By the time draft day came around no one had a good read on where Clem would end up.
He was linked with both WA clubs the suns and Giants but the latest anyone seem to have him going was 30ish.
After watching some of Clem's games this year I can not work out why clubs didn't rate him higher.
He has pace and flare and great skills. But he has something's that can't really be coached.

It's that combination of attributes that could make Clem one of the most exciting prospects at the club.
Hopefully MM has found his new game day kicking buddy.
