Given that the world cup is on i was wondering which collingwood listed players would have a good chance of playing in the world cup? I find it an interesting thought considering how much talent AFL takes away from the internationally recognised sports, we could possibly have a team to win it i feel.

Didak
Johnson
Fraser
Clement
Tarrant
Davis
Buckley
Burns...

For what reasons do you think they would be good at soccer?

Its a completely different game! Something that these players grow up with and play fron a very early age 4 or 5 years old, same goes with AFL perhaps players start a tad later but its not something you can expect to walk into!!

My team;

-------------------J.Fraser------------------
C.Morrison---J.Clement---N.Maxwell---R.Lonie
-----D.Thomas---B.Caracella---D.Nicholls-----
-------------------A.Didak------------------
----------------S.Pendlebury----------------

^ unbeatable.

(Fraser as GK, etc.)

You need a big bloke at full forward scoring headers. A good Italian boy like Rocca could play the Viduka role.

Pebbs is far too unco.

I tried to get a happy medium between height (190cm) and agility with Pendles. :thumbsu:

You guys are joking!

No Harry? Come on... We have a chance to have a Brazilian on the Collingwood soccer team, and you don't take it?

haha yeah very good point.

Replace Morrison with O'Brienho then. (I don't rate Chad one bit, but I imagined him to be a Lucas Neill clone in my head..)

I am of the belief that if you have skills that is good coordination, vision etc that you can play any sport! You cant possibly think that didak with his silky skills and sweet left boot wouldnt make it as a soccer player?!

This is a very strange thread, but I will give it my go.

---------------S Wakelin----------------
H.Shaw--J.Clement--H.O'Brien--T.Lockyer
R.Shaw-N.Buckley(c)---B.Johnson-R.Lonie
---------A.Didak-----B.Caracella---------

Wakelin has shown he would be a world-class keeper from AFL games.
Heater, Clement, O'Brien and Lockyer makes a good defensive backline with run.
Racer is one of the best soccer players at the club from all reports from what I have read, and Lonie would be a good midfielder with the long kicks/strikes and place kicks.
Didak an obvious striker with goal sense and Caracella has height and good feet and skills.
Buckley the skipper with great kick, and Benny Johnson for memory is a good soccer player at the club.

I don't think their could be a better side their.

Aussie drew with Croatia 2-2 and now are in the round of 16 played excellent!!! Yehhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Now its the PIes turn to beat the red/white!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Lonie would be a monty for the soccer side, there is no tackling, so he should excell in this game and don't forget his thumping left foot.

And the fact that Didak played representative soccer for S.A before deciding on AFL as his preferred sport.

Morrison for goalie?

He couldn't do much worse than Kalic did last night.:D

Plus he'd take up half the goal with his fat a*se:thumbsu:

Stupid Call...Lonie isn't a player for the rough stuff because it isn't the type of game he plays, but even that doesn't take away the fact that he is ranked #2 at the club for tackles, only 3 behind Cheesy.

Your reliance on stats to support your claims is getting very tiresome Lonie from 50. There is more to footy than collecting stats.

Can you give me the stats on when Lonie misses tackles or lets opposition players waltz pass him, watches the ball float over his head and spectates while his teammates put their body on the line?

Give me those f**king stats. maybe if you've played the game at a decent level, instead of going by what the staticians come up with, you'll understand why he frustrates so many Collingwood supporters.

Perhaps if bomber would actually watch the games rather than going on reputation. Tackle stats can be misleading but Lonie is one of the best tacklers at the club, not only in terms of stats but actually wrapping up a player and stopping them. He does let players evade them a bit too easily with sidesteps but now his second efforts and contested possesions have improved out of sight. A bad game for Lonie now is just under 20 possies with some good delivery. Compare this to the usual Lonie which was 5 possesions.

Guys, you might want the best pair of hands as keeper, Rocca would be perfect for that! Maybe up forward as well.

Presti,Iab and O'Brien are pencil ins, you might want Didak and Davis as well!
