Windy conditions with poor kicking in general for both teams - at HT, relatively low possession game from our front with the leaders being buntine 16 and kenners 10. Bonar playing aggressively and picking up on shipleys tackling pressure with 9 in the first half already. Flynn doing well with ruck and contested marking as well. In my opinion, Cumming in particular needs to lift his output in the second half. Being kept in the game at the moment by Sydney's inaccuracy in front of goal - scoreline currently 29-22 in favor of the swans. Not too bad at the moment considering we are missing Shipley, Buckley, Perryman and Daniels from last week.
Unfortunately outclassed and a loss today but thought it was a spirited performance despite us butchering the ball transitioning the ball from defence to attack. With no real forward targets (Sproule playing higher up and Flynn playing main ruck, though Banuelos did great with the opportunities given), bombing the ball long aimlessly in windy conditions was always going to be a tough ask for the forwards. Buntine (28 poss, 8 marks) and Kennedy (22 poss, 6 marks) were good leading the team from defence and were our top possession winners, but both need to work on lowering their eyes, and putting more precision and penetration into their kicks. Too often they kicked chaos balls high in the air and the wind carried it out on the full or to an opposition player. That being said, Bunts is doing well marking/spoiling and Kenners hasnt seemed to have lost any of his legspeed. They are tracking well for the nature of their injuries and are better for the run. Seeing good potential with Flynn as a developing ruck and he battled well in a losing team. I think he won the HO battle and marked well when the ball was there to be won. Has strung together some good games and would think he deserves a chance in the seniors soon. Bonar (16 poss, 10 tackles) had a great first half but pretty much just ran out of juice in the second - will need to build up his endurance to string together a 4 quarter performance and his 2 way running if he is to make his debut in the seniors this year. Quite liked Sproule's (19 poss, 6 tackles) game today especially in the 2nd half when he was sent into the midfield but doubt that is a position he will be playing in the senior team so would like to see him work on his forward craft and leading patterns in the coming weeks if the coach allows. Cumming (18 poss, but only 6 kicks) seems to have picked up in the second half playing from a half back position but really expected him to play better in the absence of other senior players in the team. Would have been good to see his run on the wing in tandem with Kenners and really needs to show some more dare and desperation delivering the ball by foot to his teammates.

Overall, the 75-29 scoreline was bad but could have been worse had the swans kicked straight in the second quarter. A poor but fair outcome given the tough conditions against a better opposition team given the difficulty we were always going to face scoring with a makeshift forward line. On the bright side, came out with no fresh injuries to our senior players.
Is Zac Sproule any relation to Paul Sproule

Liked Peatling when I saw him play a few weeks ago. Good to see him named amongst the best for us.

Should definitely be looking at him for at least a rookie slot.

It was always going to be a hard game and then with Shipley and Buckley travelling with the seniors it made it harder although good to see some of the academy boys having a good run of games and always one will impact the game. Some of the swans players are just stuck at the level of being too good for the reserves and dominating and not good enough for the AFL but they are needed to show some hardness around the contest and keep the team structure which is what our reserves team needs, mature players on each line and able to control the game and help the younger kids learn on the field.
i think that loss ended the finals hopes as they are 2 wins out of the top 4, 2 games v each of the QLD AFL teams and 1 v the Swans and then the Sydney uni team
Buntine another stand out performance and what is encouraging is that he hasn't missed since coming back from his ACL and showing his experience over the ground
I like the coaches comments on the listed players from the website as it gives an insight to the players development and how they are performing in the coaches eyes.

I (probably mis)understood it was the other way around, the NEAFL was early so the movie was the filler
I dont know. I've got to make a choice whether to make two trips or miss the NEAFL. The movie doesn't interest me. The trips a small one so I can, and if there's benefit to what the club wants I'm not opposed.
It shows they're willing to try things at least.

We normally get there in time to watch the last 2 or 3 qtrs of the NEAFL, but won't be able to get there until late Saturday anyway so not an issue for us.
I like the initiate to try and get more families in.

Did they not play a ruckman?
67 hitouts to 13
That's right. With Lynch, Day and Nicholls all injured we have no ruckman outside of Witts (and to a lesser extend Crossley). Both are playing footy in the 1s, meaning we have no listed rucks. Just underagers.

Suns Game
No one really stood out in the Suns game which I think highlights the loss of depth over the last few years and more solid contributions but i think having Flynn lead the ruck with support from Briggs is a good sign for the club as next year it should be the preferred set up
The poor goal kicking is where the game was lost and disappointing as it was at spotless so the players should be familiar with the angles and any breezes, and as well pressure on the opposition with the tackle count being 52-71
Lions game
Only 10 listed players so it was always going to be a challenge and away from home so I think they did well to get the draw but again a game that could have been won, I am surprised the club managed to pick up Sproule in the rookie draft as he looks like he could make it as a third tall/wingman but he will need to step up next year and dominate in the reserves
I would like to start to see Bonar Cumming and Shipley influence games more but as it is development I think the coaches put players in different positions/roles to learn about the game and this effects the players ability to really excel and also with the top ups it is hard to have the team systems working really well which is why I am in favour of filling out the rookie list with the academy players as it would allow the system to work and help players focus on the position they would play when they are in the AFL
Only Briggs and Peatling showed much from the Academy players and I think due to only the 10 listed players the structures were a bit off
