I think that probably due to the NT heat, total possessions for each side were down. Shipley was the top possession getter with just 27, then next best were 22, 19 x 3, 17, 16 x 3 - I can't see a total possession count for each side, but that is certainly down on the numbers we normally see. We'll see when Grimlock posts the game stats. There were certainly a few fumbles, but not necessarily that much more than we see in a normal game, so I think game style maybe reduced it. We seemed to have a good mix of possession footy and a more flowing style. Bonar was not as dominant as he's been in other game (perhaps his fitness in those conditions?), but he certainly did several good things that I saw - but possibly not as consistent as he needs to be for a first grade debut. Bit similar from Daniels with some good touches, but periods of invisibility.

Stats are on the afl app and
Total possessions
261-290
Tackles
33-31

Apparently he matched up on & held Darren Ewing - the gun NEAFL goalkicker (in last 9 seasons 5 x NEAFL & 9 x Thunder leading goalkicker) - to zero goals for only the eighth time in 185 games.
Holding non AFL players to no goals doesn't feel like the litmus test to AFL stardom we would like.
Will be interesting to see if in 10 years the NEAFL has reached the level of the SANFL or the WAFL

If you check out his record against AFL defenders, holding him to zero goals is actually pretty impressive. Ewing is probably the best non-AFL listed forward in about any league.

I think in 10 years time it could be an national reserves comp split into 2 divisions based on location and not necessarily limited to just the AFL reserves team is what I would like to see
12 listed players and some of the better academy players in Peatling Briggs Driscoll and Pollock
Early game this weekend as the curtain raiser and unfortunately for the suns a few injuries will effect the number of listed players but I am sure it will be a competitive game and hopefully Kennedy is back in for this game

14 listed players and Dylan Addison is back, not sure how it works with the senior emergency when it is a home game? Do they sit out or just play half the 2nd game. The u18s game has been moved to BISP. I think the Suns have 11 listed players and the game will be live streamed, looking forward to seeing Kennedy back and whoever matches up on Lyons will be in for a hard day

Big welcome back to Kennedy.

Looking forward to watching this only.

I was wondering if they'd persist with three games in succession at Spotless given the soaking rain and more forecast on Saturday. It's a great surface but that would have been a challenge.

Looking forward to this game like few NEAFL games. Kenners is back, but it's a bit early to expect too much.

I liked what I saw of Daniel's on TV in the Thunder game, but he needs to find the gap in the big sticks when shooting more often.

Flynn looked good as well, seemed to me he played a complete ruckman's game. Wonder how far a debut is off for him.

Shipley and Bonar both looked like mids who will have long AFL careers.

Guys like Finlayson, Buntine and Cumming are adding class to the seconds and that's why we're winning I think.

Probably the best thing is as the injury list shortens we're getting some real depth in the NEAFL squad for the first time in a long time. We've still got some big outs but without the loss of Williams and Setterfield long term it's easy to see our list manager could be taking a bow right now.

Good win for the boys; wish they could have gone on with it in the last Q. Kennedy a stunning return - needs a few games in 2nds to get match fitness, but he can certainly add to the first team with his run and small defending. Shipley, Finlayson, Sproule & Daniels also did well.
I was a little disappointed with Finlayson. Thought he lacked urgency
