Team for the curtain raiser 12 listed + Addison for the swans I think it is 12 listed so should be a competitive game
Not being live broadcast so if anyone is at the ground early any updates would be greatly appreciated
No Stein likely with the concusion from the training collision
Bonar named and I am hoping to see Buntine improve
B: 21. Matthew Buntine 39. Tim Mohr 52. David Smith
HB: 41. Josh Burke 15. Sam Taylor 49. Nathan Coxall
C: 40. Will Spencer 10. Aiden Bonar 47. Clarrie Barker
HF: 16. Brent Daniels 28. Zach Sproule 26. Dawson Simpson
F: 48. Jayden Kelly 12. Jon Patton 45. Lachlan Tanner
Foll: 30. Matthew Flynn 46. Dylan Addison 36. Harry Perryman
Inter: 33. Miles Bridgland 53. Bailey McParland 43. Dylan Buckley 54. Riley Budd 34. Nick Shipley
Emer: Jarrad Karo

Perryman being stuck in the 2nds given where we are makes me wonder if he is happy at the club, lost his brother in arms to Carlton last year and not really taking strides fwd this year. If that's the case I hope he gets over it, he is the kind of player we need in the bottom 6 of our best 22

Had an interrupted preseason and missed a game with something as well (back maybe) only a Second year player but he should get games in the back half of the year or maybe before the bye

So looks like a pointless exercise with the General. Where to now?
More time in NEAFL.

What's the story on Riley Budd #54 today, was one of your better players overall.
Thanks for your ongoing posting of stats for our NEAFL team. In regards Budd, he's GWS academy. Canberra lad, now plays for Canberra Demons, but overager in the academy/U18 setup so plays NEAFL for GWS occasionally. Did you have a specific question? While he showed a bit last year and this, I don't think it would be enough to get him drafted.

He’s a big lad, possibly key position size but seemed to be playing midfield and covering the field quite well. I just thought he might have been a mature ager.
Played defence and some ruck from snippets I've seen, but presumably chops and changes depending on the team he's playing in. 19 year old. I did not see the game but obviously had good stats and if he caught your eye, must have played well too.

It was always going to be a tough game and the it would have been closer with better accuracy in front of goal
Interesting stats from the game Swans kick to hand ball ratio was 2.05 so interesting in the swirly conditions
Free kick count significantly in favour of the Swans
Despite winning the hitouts 58-28 the clearances were even
Away to Canberra this weekend and hopefully Kennedy is ready for this game and possible inclusions from the academy series

Team for the Canberra game below and the game will be broadcast via the link

Stein back in after missing a couple of weeks and a couple of outs are J Buckley (Missed last week also) and S Taylor and neither on the injury list from earlier in the week. Thought Kennedy would have been ok for this week but obviously not ready. 4 overage academy players named between the 2 teams that i recognise with Coxall and Pollock for the Giants and then Richards and Powell for the Demons and interesting that ex academy player Brendan Myers is playing for the Northern Blues in the VFL so hope he succeeds down there
10 listed players and from a post earlier it will be 9 with D Buckley in Tasmania

Full time with the GIANTS going down by 51pts.
GIANTS 11.8.74 to Demons 18.17.125 Patton (3 goals), Sproule (29 poss), Shipley (27 poss).

Interested to see how Buntine went, and some others. With more injuries in first grade (Reid) and some uninspiring players there should be opportunities.
I really think Bunts time must come shortly.

I'd have to think it's just a matter of ensuring that he has sufficient conditioning for first grade. I hate to say it, but Isaac Cumming hasn't inspired me with confidence in his two games so far. Not fully his fault, no doubt, given how dustily the whole team is playing, but just hasn't shown all the skills he was drafted for IMHO. I'm not sorry that he's had a run in firsts, but I wouldn't be surprised if he (likely Shipley before him) went back to NEAFL after a taste of first grade. Will be good for his overall development. Bunts would be a suitable replacement. Otherwise, it might depend on other injuries etc and team balance as to how we get Bunts back in.

:p Careful

I was thinking for Sam Reid injured. Perryman looked good at times to me today though. And yeah it may happen Isaac has to go back for a time. Bunts is now an pretty experienced back in the prime of his career. We need his composure regardless I think.

BREAKING NEWS Demons flog Giants
NEAFL Giants AFL contracted players get towled up by overlooked former academy players. Shipley and Bonar had silver service from big Dawso (75 hit outs to 25) and were both soundly beaten in the middle Maguire and Powell.
Now thats the problem with the club they haven't drafted footballers and picking Daniels when Spargo was still available is an absolute disgrace from the recruiters.

Aussie18 you are obviously passionate about NSW footy, but you keep advancing this line without providing any evidence that what you say is true - just that your views differ from that of the GWS recruitment team. You may be right that they haven't chosen the best players for GWS - time will tell - but all discussion at the time regarding Brent Daniels was that he was a gun footballer with skills, speed, agility and goal sense. In that regard, he is described quite similarly to Charlie Spargo - except that his AFL combine results were much better in speed & agility, and the GWS recruitment team obviously rated him higher (and stated at the time that they saw him as the best small forward in the draft). I don't see that this makes him an athlete rather than a footballer. Until he actually plays first grade and we see what he does in comparison to Spargo, the jury is out and your complaints are just conjecture.

Shipley - yes, he's an investment in Western Sydney from an academy perspective, but his work at last year's U18 Championships were superior to others including Spargo and Powell. Could we have gotten him later, such as the rookie draft? Probably, and we probably drafted him in the ND as a point. Yet I'm not seeing Powell rip it up this year in the U18 Champs, and while he had a good game against us this weekend, how's his whole season gone?
